I'll be sure to bring all of these letters on my first day and hopefully that will help with this endeavor. :) Especially the one from Team Dickbutt, I mean maybe threatening them would be the best way to handle it. Haha. I still have hope that I will be able to make at least some of the ride, even if not all of it this year. I'm going to do everything I can to be there!
Well, Jason and I are off to Telluride for nine days to be dirty hippies camping and dance to Bluegrass music!

How about:

Dear Sir or Madam,

If I can't go on RAGBRAI, Team Dickbutt is going to burn this building down. That is all.

Sincerely,

Mandy from Manchester. (and Team Dickbutt)

What he said. Especially the part about consumption in my free time. Not riding with Mandy on Ragbrai is like not having spring. or oxygen. or really important stuff like that.

I'll start, everyone can continue to add/change their own bit :-)

Dear sir or madam,

We are a dedicated team of cyclists that ride across the state of Iowa every year. Our team SPA (Social Productivity Analysts) uses this one week of the year to get out and work hard and have a forum on how teamwork can build productivity. We consist of several professors whose research includes work on the efficiency of work in various settings as well as productivity versus consumption of free time, with others having worked in basic science fields. Mandy has been a key participant in our very successful rides over the past 10 years and it would be sad if she had to miss another healthy and valuable trip across Iowa. You are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic employee, but we think she would be an even bigger asset if she is able to participate in our Team SPA bike ride.

Mandy, all is not lost. We need a letter campaign. Don't we have like three full fledged professors in the Skabubble? We'll get together a really well worded letter, signed by all, then respectfully sent to your employer. Our base argument is, a happy worker is a productive worker. Let's work quickly here, deadline is the end of next week. Mandy should read the final version and decide whether or not it gets sent. Worst is they say no. So who's got the biggest dickgree. They are the "writer", we all sign. Let's hear ideas on how the letter should be structured.

Dear SKA,
It is with great sadness I am posting this message... it doesn't look like I will be on the ride this year. :( I can't believe it - I've been on Ragbrai the last 10 years in a row and I can't imagine what life is like without spending a week in July with you guys. Jason still plans on coming though, and he will take my place on the team.
Anyways, here is the story... I've been in this crappy, dead end job for the past 6 months which I have absolutely hated. It really sucked and every morning I would wake up and not want to get out of bed because I hated my job so much. BUT, a couple of weeks ago I was offered a sweet, awesome job which would be a big step in my career. So, today was the last day at my crappy job. On June 29th I start my new cool job. Somehow I don't think they are going to be okay with me taking a week off after being there less than a month and they said the first full month is training so I have no idea what the schedule will look like.
There is still hope - maybe they will see my sadness or are really cool and I can explain to them how important this is to me to go on Ragbrai. Maybe they will let me off for 1/2 the week so I can still come for some of it! I'm not sure what will happen but wanted to let you guys know. I will do EVERYTHING in my power to be there and you all know that! I'll update you all once I know for sure.
Hope you all are doing great!!!! I MISS YOU ALL!!

I plan on doing a self-contained ragbrai this year, then continuing on to Indianapolis for a wedding on Aug. 1st. Do any members of your team live in Illinois or Indiana? If so, will they be riding their bikes home? On my return trip I was considering riding the Katy Trail and then North to the Ia, Mo state line and getting on the Wabash. Any recommendations on places to stay, or more importantly, drink near the Katy? Or should I just take surface roads? If I do take the Katy is there a good bike shop, bar or coffee shop in St. Charles where I could send my trail rims and tires to be swapped out on arrival and ship the road rims/tires home? Or should I just use the US Post Office?

Don't worry Jane - I am sure that I got everything figured out on the SKA jersey order. As long as I got a jersey ordered for everybody on the list, any extras can be fought over!

NeuAustin,
I was backpacking the Ozark Highlands Trail all last week, then finished with Wakarusa Music Festival Fri, Sat. I would have called you otherwise. Definitely let me know the next time you're in Lawrence. Marion and I have a loft if you ever need a place to crash. We're pretty close to downtown. Plus I'll let you drive the rickshaw so you could make some extra beer money. This offer is open to any and all SKA visiting Lawrence.

Eek! The Jane Katz is me, I lost my credit card celebrating the Barcelona Champion's League victory last week (second time I've lost my credit cards due to futbol celebration drunkenness in the past two years, last time it was when Spain won the Eurocup...staying true to form). So I PayPal ordered with my momma's card as it's going to be a few weeks before I get hold of my new one and didnt want to miss the deadline. I just need one jersey!

Can I go with large instead of XL for my socks? If it's too late no worries.

P.S. Jeff- I'm gonna be in Lawrence this Thursday/Friday. Hit me up if you're free! 620-755-2029
