Did you have pigtails as a girl?
Ever get them pulled? By a boy? Who you found out later on had a crush on you?
Yeah, I pulled a few pigtails in my time. Never snapped any bras, though. I expect that would hurt more, and wouldn't want it done to me. If, you know, I grew up to be a trannie or something along those lines.
Plus pigtails are hott. In general.

More to the point, you are lumped in with them because he reads you regularly, just as he reads them. At least, that's my take.
...Though to be honest, I enjoy reading you more than I enjoy reading Zeldman. Which is saying a lot. (I hadn't thought of it that way until just now, but shit, it's true.) I will admit that he's a better source of news.
I could go on, but I already have.
And ambiguo can speak for himself. A ponytail's not at all bad, but pigtails push a button on my psyche that makes their owner anything but hott - something to do with my opinion that they're a juvenile adornment. If there's cleavage to go with 'em my perception turns in upon itself like something out of Escher and I go back to reading in order to avoid permanent drain bamage.

I've known about the allure of pigtails for some time.
You can't over-wear them though. It's the surprise of them, I think, that matters.

Yeah, Tantek just meant that Matthew was picking on you for no reason. Plus, you're a girl. You don't live or work in a world where things like web standards and semantic markup are all-important, so Matthew's comment was a little out of left field.
Anyway, your markup isn't perfect like mine, but it's actually not that bad. I've seen worse. On big commercial sites. Today.

Matthew's blog says he's >the founder and president of the Houston Palm Users Group.
That's a bit vague....

Farker, you caught the ambiguitity that my friends get a good laugh out of from time to time. Just to clarify we focus on the PalmOS. :)
Brittney, I am very sorry. "Atrocious" is far too strong a word for what I was trying to say, which was more along the lines of "un-semantic." I do recognize what a labour of love it must be to blog by hand. The comment was in no way meant to be any sort of qualitative statement about the actual content of the site, which is quite interesting. Rather, when Tantek said "pushing the envelope" and linked to the people he did, I assumed that he meant it in the sense of innovative markup and CSS, and that's the basis on which I judged your site and thought it might be out of place.
Making the move to structured markup and CSS can sometimes be a tricky thing, and if you ever decide that's right for you and need assistance, I would be more than happy to help in whatever way I can. The same goes if you ever decide to stop hand-rolling. I'm not saying you ought to do either though, like the post says, "Do what makes you happy."

Hey, my site's all "hand-coded"... plus I use frames. I demand points for my stubborn embrace of anachronism.
And say, thanks for the kind big public hug, your Brittneyness.

For dong, everybody with me now:
... ... ... ...
Anyway. Ahem. (Lame, I know.) The site's actually quite nice, even if it does use frames.
I was just gonna say, Brittney, that to a great degree I admire your patience, on account of the volume of manual production. (And, on reflection, that I seem to be into comma abuse, lately.)

Here's my take:
Zeldman is a designer who's been a graphic designer since before there was a web. He's into making things look right. He's gotten into semantic markup and such because he's been dealing with years and years of browser quirks which make his job (making things look right) harder. If browsers all worked the same (according to standards), making things look right would have to be done just once. We read him because he happens to be a good writer, he gives good lessons on how to make things look right, and his design is visually inspiring.
Tantek is a programmer. His job is making things which have been designed by others look right. He's into hand coding because... he's a programmer. We read him because he decides how our pages look (in some browsers) and becuase he happens to write well.
Brittney is a writer. That green color is sort of annoying. The layout is simple. I've never been inspired to View Source to figure out how she made something look cool. I have no insight as to why she codes by hand (although, it does add many many cool points). But we read her - because she is a good writer. And that transcends the media in which her work may appear, which is why she gets published on dead trees as well.

You did, you bastard.
Actually, I thought those were points - twelve of them in fact - which I was giving you.
But, to each his own. ::grin::
I can be literal-minded sometimes.
And s-t.l. has nailed it IMO.
