Regarding Dish pressure to shut down Al-Jazeera. Echostar has large amount of shares in DirectTV, which is controlled by Hughes Electronics. At this writing, Rupert Murdoch (News Corp: Fox Cable TV, NY Post, London Times, and everything else!) has just put in the bid of $6.6B to buy Hughes Electronics so he can get control of Dish services. He is very conservative and his outlets reflect this. He will not have Al-Jazeera, period, when he takes over.

The FCC is going to approve this takeover if no one puts pressure on these directors to stop this takeover.

Some interesting stories: Hans Blix has given multiple interviews to European news sources on his work in Iraq weapons inspections. He has one key point: First, there was intense pressure, perhaps even sabotage by the US to undermine the UN inspectors work earlier this year. Also, I have heard that a writer for the New York Times is writing a "tell all" article about how the US never had evidence or credible information on Iraq's WMD and decided to go to war very long ago--even before the weapons inspections. Lastly, today it is being reported that a recently captured scientist--the second so far?-- is asserting that Iraq destroyed all of its WMD before the war.

Does anyone have any idea why Colin McMillan, the man President Bush just nominated for Secretary of the navy, killed himself. The news stories say it may because he was dispondent over a recurrence of cancer.

This man was active in the oil business, in the banking business (Bush named him chairman of the board for Sallie Mae in, I believe, 2000), cattle ranching, and headed Bush's presidential campaign for New Mexico.

Look around your blogs, etc. See if anything nepharious could be at play here.

personaly i trust my president and even though some of you may not that doesnt mean he is a bad man, if there isnt any weapons of mass destruction in iraq then we have still helped the people there they are not worried as much to be tortured or be one of the hundreds of bodies stored in a warehouse we have made it were the children dont have to grow up in those conditions and dont have to think that they may die any day at any time. we may have not found weapons and they may still be there but we have helped a helpless people. and im very happy we have

To respond to your comment, Bush supporter, I want to say that I totally understand what you mean about getting rid of Sadam. He was a horrendous dicator, no doubt, and he is now gone, and that's good. But I wish that we hadn't helped him get so big and powerful and horrible in the 1980's when he was our ally and we supported him--I wish we hadn't sold him the weapons that he used against his own people. And what really concerns me now is that we killed god knows how many tens of thousands of Iraqis (plus hundreds of Brits and US Americans) to "help" or "liberate" the Iraqis, and we left behind enough depleted uranium to cause birth defects and cancer...forever! Plus, the occupation is not so kind either--one commander who surrounded a whole village in razor wire said to reporters something like, "With a good dose of fear and violence, these people will understand that we're here for their good." Untrained,ill-equipped and scared soldiers are supposed to police the people, which has commonly resulted in shooting civilians at the slightest provocation. And for certain, the standard of living for Iraqis in terms of jobs, incomes, food, elecricity, housing, water, etc. has declined tremendously. So.....We haven't freed anyone too much, or helped anyone too much, and we won't until we let them have their own government and pull out those schmucks the US appointed to govern them.

Canada renews pressure on Tehran
 
Kazemi was arrested for taking photos outside a Tehran prison
Canada has renewed its demands on Iran to return the body of journalist Zahra Kazemi and reopen a criminal inquiry into her death in Iranian custody.
Canadian Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew said he made the demands in a phone call to his Iranian counterpart.
