I am using Appleworks 6.2.7 and have not been able to print a spreadsheet out of it yet. I reloaded the program twice to no avail. Everytime I try to print-I get an error mesasage on my printer(HP5000). It will print word processing docs fine, but not the spreadsheets. Any ideas? I could surely use the input. Thanks.

How did you create the sheet in the first place? If it's just text and date cells, why not just export it as SYLK or something bare, and reimport?

While I don't doubt that some esoteric mathematical theorem is at the root of my problems, I don't think it's related to calculations. The source spreadsheet is all static text and date cells with no calculations at all.

You have encountered Godel's Law in practice. Every math system (i.e. spreadsheet) can express statements that cannot be calculated within that system. Spreadsheets with problems like this tend to be deeply fucked, with some sort of subtle structural error that ends up in a recursive loop and infinite recalculation. I suspect that when you delete the row, some other calc refers to a changed location, which is now connected to another calc in a recursive loop.

By the way, re my Spreadsheet of Death, I'm interested in hearing from anybody who can 1) delete the first row (click on row label; cmd-shift-K) without AppleWorks seizing up, or 2) tell me what the hell is wrong with that doc, or 3) demonstrate that it can be "cleaned" so as to eradicate the problem without affecting formatting (i.e. no CSV export). This is a real problem.

When I bought my Powerbook the 1-800 rep said they didn't even include Appleworks with "professional" systems because everyone bought Word anyway.

I always liked Appleworks.
