I just maxed out my memory, so I went in and deleted a lot of songs that I didn't want off of itunes. (I know I can just uncheck them, I really just don't want them at all) Then I put in the new songs I wanted in itunes. I clicked sync, and when I unplugged my ipod when it was done, I had less songs than before. When I checked, I had only taken off the old songs. It did not put new ones on. I tried several more times, but the new songs on itunes won't go onto my ipod! Please help!

All of a sudden, when I try to burn a cd or back up onto a cd, using itunes, it says, "disk burner or software not found..."
What the hell?? How can I fix this?
I downloaded the new version of itunes, then it worked, but when I tried to burn a cd the next day, it said the same message.
If anyone can help, please e-mail me at asnappletruck@hotmail.com.
Thanx!!

well i tryed to put videos from my own files into itunes. it eneded up making it freeze everytime i tried to sync it and it froze up when i tried to delete the videos. i system restored to the point where the videos werent there, but i said that the Itunes Helper Module has stopped working and it wouldn't let me open the program, so what i did was to uninstall it. it preteneded like it uninstalled, but it is still there. the icon for the program is a black page now. when i click on it does nothing. when a new version of itunes came i tried to download it, but it said when i tried to download quicktime it had an error and stopped the download. so i tried to uninstall itunes becuase that is what the itunes guy told me to do. It acted like it uninstalled it, but i didn't. So, that is where i'm at right nowl. Please help me.

I have a large library of music, more than my iPod will hold. Since I like to keep my iPod on autosync, I try to keep my library small enough so it will fit on the iPod. Therefore, when I add new music, I delete some music from the iTunes library to make room, but I don't delete the music files. Now I have a large amount of music in my library's directory structure that is not in iTunes. I would like to move the music that is in iTunes out of that directory (or move the music that is not in iTunes out of that directory) so that I can create a separate iTunes library: one for all the music I sync with my iPod, and one of all the music I own that is not in my iPod library. Are there any programs out there that will look at two directories and delete the duplicates from one of the directories? Using this in conjunction with the "consolidate library" would solve my problem.

Problem fixed. We uninstalled iTunes again, because I guess the first time we uninstalled it, it didnt uninstall everything. So, we installed it again and all those 1000's of smart playlists were gone! So, then we just had to get the old songs back into the My Music folder and then back into iTunes. Happy now.

Somehow our iTunes library has been populated with thousands of different Playlists (most of them are blank), I have no idea how they got created. I have been only able to delete them one at a time, and that takes almost a minute per deletion. I uninstalled iTunes and then installed it again, but these playlists are still there! Dose anyone know how I can delete multiple playlists at one time or delete basically all my playlists, so I can get rid of these unwanted playlists? Thanks!

This iTunes registration sucks for the iPhone. I can't activate this stupid iPhone I paid way too much for. Apple better do something about their stupid servers or I am going to demand they refund my $600 dead presidents. You'd image that Apple would have backup servers to authenticate Apple ID users and finish the dammed activation process, but guess what they don't.

Message "We're sorry but an error occurred during your iphone activation. Please disconnect and then reconnect your iphone to continue"

I did that 8 times today and reported the issue to AT&T only to be connected to some support portal in India (and of course they have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on) telling me this is the only way to activate the iPhone, via iTunes....good grief

Thank you Mr. Jobs

I have the latest iTunes loaded into my pc. It no longer downloads my cds into the harddrive. It does launch 'gracenote' and shows the list of songs per album, scrolls quickly down the list and says it downloaded but its not.
Its annoying as I like itunes more than any other music program.

1. I have reloaded iTunes on the computer
2. I now have to use the horrible windows media player to download cds
3. It does download songs from the iTunes store
4. Its a fairly new dual core Intel Dell computer
5. I tried switching modes from importing mp3 to aiff, then back
6. It plays aand does everything else but download cds.

Thanks all!

My sister and i both have usernames on one window xp. I'm the only one who buys songs on my itunes, then my sister just transfers the songs i buy to her itunes on her username. Is there anyway to put a password or somthing on my itunes before you enter so you can't even transfer songs (if she wants them she can buy them her self)from one account on a computer to another.

-she can still transfer songs even when i log out!
-i've tryed changing my password to my username, but she knows my dads password and he a computer addministrater (sp??)so she can just change my account password (and my dad refuses to change his password)
-"talking it out" won't work i've already tried!

I've bought at least 75 songs ($75) and she's bought 0! i'd really apreciate anyone eho can help!

iTunes isn't working for me for some odd reason. It happened right after I installed the newest version of iTunes. After that, it won't let me on the music store. Every time I click on it, it says that it can not connect and to make sure my connection is active. It pops up as soon as I click on iTunes music store. But my connection is active. I am able to go on to any website, and it isn't slow at all. Thats not all, It won't even read my iPod. I tried plugging in my iPod, nothing comes up. This has been going on for the past 3 days. I've tried all I could. Installing the newest version again, and restarting my computer. If anyone knows whats going on, or what I could do to fix this, please let me know. Thanks everyone!

What's the difference when I'm looking at an album with a "this album is also available in itunes plus" bar across the page top? It says you have to go to 7.2 for itunes plus, but when I upgraded to 7.1, itunes gave me a message saying I had allowed a 3rd computer to play my purchased itunes music, when really it was still my 2nd computer. I don't want to risk this again.

So can someone tell me a way around that and could you please tell me the difference between an album and an album bought in itunes plus? thanks.

I loaded itunes on my work computer and everytime i dock my ipod it tells me i have a ipod that needs to be restored. If i am not mistaken, restoring your ipod removes all content. What do i do to enable it to play my music on my work computer?

Thanks,

i want to create a playlist that has submenus. say i title the playlist cds, when i tap the center button on my ipod i want the certain cds i chose to put on this playlist to show up by title of album. from there i could select the album that i want to view the songs for. from there select a song, you know. i was wondering if there was a way to create such a playlist just as the ipod automatically organizes your music say if you were to view your selections by artist etc.

Hello. Does anyone know what the comments mean that iTunes seems to add to mp3 files? (As seen under "file properties", "summary", "comments" of any mp3 file made with iTunes)... It always lists 10 numbers which start with three-to-five zeros ... for example, 00000378, etc. (they are 8 digits each)...

Purple............ what you got to do is buy a external hard drive(from best buy or something) Then if you still have you old computer(if u dont screw it u cant get them back) then u save all of your songs to the external hard drive. Once youve done that you take out your new laptop and hookup the external harddrive and import every single song through that(because of the itunes software its going to take forever if you hav alot of songs)
heres the external harddrives

But for a faster, free way, if your both of your computers are wireless you can save them to your wireless network

TIFFANY - the question about 8.00kr showing up as the price for your songs: You have the Danish ITunes store selected instead of the US ITunes store (mine was like this too - maybe it's some wierd default, I don't know!!). Anyway, in ITunes select Store, Home. The main ITunes store page will be displayed. Scroll all the way to the bottom and where is says My Store - select United States. That should fix your problem! :)

My son connected his IPOD (60g 5th generation)to his computer before installing iTunes. Now, his videos do not come over. He gets an error message something to the effect of insert a disc into the drive. It's as if the IPOD is being treated as removable storage (like a jump drive). What can he do?

Ok...had iTunes on my PC with XP. PC died, a buddy put my hard drive into a new PC running 2000 OS. I re-installed iTunes but my library isn't there. I've got all the files on the hard drive, though. So far it looks to me like the only way for me to get my library into iTunes is to drag and drop each folder of music into iTunes(it's one folder per album).

Is there any quicker way to do this? I've got about 3000 tracks and in some cases I have just one song by many artists. Each one of those is a click and drag. Is there a faster way to recreate what is on my iPod (playlists, etc.) into the library? Like downloading the iPod contents into the library? I'm afraid to connect the iPod to my PC for fear of having the iPod wiped clean.

Ayuda me!

I've had my ipod for almost a year now, and I'm very happy with Itunes, but now my mom has gotten the new Nano version. We have completely different tastes in music and we don't want each others' "junk" on our ipods. Is there any way of having two different Itunes on the same computer? Or is there any way that I can have all of my stuff while she has all of her stuff on the seperate ipods, but on the same ocmputer?

Recently I purchased an album on itunes and my credit card account should have been charged $10.87 But instead it was charged once for 10.20 and one for 9.90 I purchased nothing else on itunes near that time and I have no clue what is going on. Then, about a month later I bought a tv show episode and my account should have been charged for 2.17 I also bought a nother episode that was free on itunes(i dont know if this is related) So, when I checked my account history after this purchase I was charged once for 1.03 and once for 2.24(both on different days just like last time.) Is this an itunes problem, or a credit card problem? Please help me figure out what is going on.

I've just got a new laptop and I can't download itunes onto it. I've been without itunes for 3 weeks now which is way too long and I've also lost the itunes disc that came with my ipod. It's the newest ipod so i can't even use the old itunes that i have for my old ipod. I really need help as this is getting seriously annoying! A friend told me to leave it a few days and try again but it didn't work and I really don't know what to do. If I'd had been listened to and an apple laptop been bought then i wouldn't have this problem, but i wasn't and now i am stuck with no itunes. Can i buy itunes anywhere? As far as i know on the apple site it just says to download it (which i have done numerous times). PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi, I'm currently trying to import a playlist from my brothers itunes program to my ipod. When i connect my ipod to his computer, it says do i want to make this ipod program my default. If i do this, it will delete what i already have on my ipod and replace it with his song library. I just want to import a selection of songs onto my ipod without deleting what i already have..

If anyone out there can help me i'd be greatly appreciative.

I recently got a new laptop and I thought that if i installed itunes onto it and then plugged in my ipod that the songs would transfer from the ipod into my library. All it did was wipe out every song on my ipod. I don't want to go through and re-download every song. I still have my old library on a different computer so is there a way to take the songs from there and put them back onto my ipod. Nothing happens when I plug my ipod into my computer. All it says it do not disconnect for a few seconds and then it goes back to the home screen.

Please I need some help!!!!!

Anyone a playlist expert? Or using itunes on a PC expert?

My pc laptop bought the farm recently and I had to reinstall all my programs. Before this I successfully backed up my ENTIRE computer onto an external drive. When I reinstalled itunes and repopulated my new library with the backed-up music I found my playlists to be MIA.

I had dozens of personally compiled playlists, not to mention a playlist for every album I had (cause mucking around in a library of my size is ridiculous). We're talking days (weeks even) of work lost here, some technical and some creative, which is irreplacable.

Please please please can someone please suggest where I should look for my playlists?

I had a lot of songs on my I-tunes (and, of course, on my I-Pod). Problem - my computer just broke!!

I still have all the songs on my I-pod, but now since I have to get a new computer ans since I couldn't retrieve or back up my I-tunes from my old computer, how in the world do I put the songs from my I-Pod into my I-Tunes program on my new computer!!??

When searching for artists who have more than 250 songs in the system, I can't always call up the "More Results" tab that permits seeing the additional selections. How is that tab accessed?

hey guys, i'm in a band and i was wondering if the visualizer for itunes will react to different sources of input. basically, i want to run an audio line out from the mixing board and into a powerbook, thus having the visualizer react as we play live. is this possible? my email is karlo@outoforbit.org. thanks.

Is possible to make a copy of a playlist that contains just the song name, the name of the artist, and the length of the song? The information obtained from exporting the playlist is long and contains a lot of extraneous information.

DL'd (downloaded) a bunch of singles that I would have NEVER have bought because I don't follow the hip-hop and R&B genres all that closely therefore I would never buy the entire albums. This iTunes is the promise the Internet made a long time ago. And it certainly is fair to the artists and to the listeners(fans). Thanks Steve Jobs you did a great job and I hope you kick Microsoft and Bill Gates REAL hard in the balls for stealing your GUI (Graphical User Interface). Bill Gates is a thief, no question about it. Thanks Steve !!! WMP(Windows Media Player) sucks !

This might work for those out of the country...try setting your Address under your My Account in System Preference (My Account) to an USA address...then when you register with the music store enter your billing address that is exactly as list on your credit card (your real address) and see if this works. It seemed to work for me.

Also, don't forget that NPR has a feature on their web page called "All Songs Considered" http://www.npr.org/programs/asc/index.html and each day's news has links to the music used between segments (eg. http://discover.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.j...=05/14/2003&prgId=2 ). If only Apple set up some sort of affiliates program that NPR could use...

I've downloaded 7 Thomas Dolby songs (listed as a "partial album" whatever that meant). The process was very straightforward.

My home DVD/CD player can't play CD's I burn at home, so unless or until I get a different DVD/CD player, if I want something to listen to at home on the stereo system, I'll purchase the physical CD.

While I often have music playing, I'm a low volume purchaser. I've probably purchased, on average, 6 CD's a year over the past decade. I doubt that'll change much.

What I find interesting about the quality debate is that in a car, or walking with an iPod, there is enough ambient noise that I certainly can't tell the difference between mp3, AAC, or AIFF.

I hope the service continues to work well. I hope that the Windows software helps win over even more people.

http://www.thenewjazzthing.com/ is run by the host of a local radio program; after his last show Vince put links to the ITMS search feature for his entire playlist: http://TheNewJazzThing.com/2003/05/12.html#a949.

This is a really cool idea but it foundered with the current limited selection. I think he's right in observing that the other thing they need to do is offer a financial incentive for people who send business their way -perhaps just a store credit to avoid the extra processing overhead of cutting checks.

The New Jazz Thing is a great example of how ITMS could change the music market since the artists and tracks are new to many listeners and they're obscure enough that most non-niche record stores aren't going to stock them - exactly where online music sales offer a huge advantage over their bricks and mortar counterparts.

I had an experience of "instant gratification" with iTMS. I was reading a website that mentioned a certain song, and lo and behold, 99 cents later, I had that song on my hard drive! I think it's great. And it allows me to use music and obtain it with such a "spur of the moment" concept. I don't have to plan to visit a physical store, by which time I will have a hard time remembering what I want. Also, none of the record stores around here (or stores that sell records along with other things) have anything like Apple's 30 second full quality previews.

Other than that, I feel I should point out, in response to someone's comment, that there are 2 kinds of AAC file in iTunes 4. Protected (*.m4p, as bought from iTMS) & Non-Protected (*.m4a). Non protected files in *.m4a format (as ripped from CD or converted from another format) can be, AFAIK, streamed, shared, sent, uploaded, downloaded, etc. to anyone anywhere that has iTunes 4 or Quicktime 6.2 and they can be played. Restrictions only apply to *.m4p format files that have been bought from Apple's iTMS. The only other caveat is that those of us with MP3 players not made by Apple can't play either kind of AAC.

As an update, I have bought 34 singles to date. I would never have bought the entire albums just to get them. Very addictive and nice.

Regarding the Regina Carter album I just downloaded, to my non-expert ears it sounds pretty good when burned to a CD and played through our home stereo. Granted this is not classical music, which would challenge the whole process more, but I find this musical experience satisfactory so far...

Y'know I figured I _might_ buy one song, just as a sort of "show of solidarity" that pople will pay for music, if the system is done right, and then, I found a Pink Floyd track I hadn't DL'ed (The original is off on 8-track somewhere...:)) so I grabbed that...and then 2 Pink songs that I'd grabbed off Gnutella, but hadn't bought the CD yet...and then I grabbed a couple of Philip Glass and 1 Nas tracks that I'd DL'ed and not bought, so I'm up to 6 so far. I'm kind of afraid to go back in. :)

I also tested burning to a CD and ripping, and it sounded fine.

My only concern is with the "sharing" I mean, it's streaming, so why DRM it over the network? Also, if you have your stuff in AAC, I'm _sure_ as hell not giving out my Apple ID and password to someone just so they can listen to music in my collection, which is kind of an incentive NOT to have a lot of AAC files. Or if I do, to rip them to MP3. Hopefully they'll change that.

I've purchased several songs and am very happy with the speed they downloaded and that I get to preview them before I drop my cash. Also kudos to Apple support. I bought an old U2 single that had really bad hissing in it. A quick couple of clicks (Help->Music Store Customer Service) and they had fixed the song and reauthorized me to download it. It speedily redownloaded (if thats a word) and sounded great. I like tha new music store and look forward to buying music in the future (and not worrying about the RIAA busting in my door).

Ditto the thoughts of some others...
Definitely purchase some solo tracks, but if I want an entire album, I would most likely buy the physical CD from BMG or Columbia House for under $8, shipped.

It was cool to download a legal copy of a song this evening in under twenty seconds. Very easy interface. I'm sure I'll buy some more in the future.

Just bought 3 tracks - very easy and a fairly fast download over my DSL connection. Maybe a little too easy as far as my credit card is concerned...

The AAC sounds pretty good, maybe better than the 192kbps VBR I use for my CDs. The big downside of AAC for me is that I own a slimp3 which doesn't support the format yet.

After the initial trouble getting my credit card to work, things are now fine. I have bought 4 songs from albums that I would not have spent $10-15 on to get. The 30 second sample for all songs is great. This allows me to see if an entire album is worth it. If you can live without the liner notes and physical cover art, this is it.

As I stated in the other thread, I was able to 1) burn the downloaded AAC-encoded files to a cd, 2) rip them as mp3s, and then 3) do whatever I wanted to with them (download it to a Palm, an mp3 player, etc, etc. I also found that the AAC files sound really, really good. Much better than the typical mp3s I've ripped or downloaded over the past few years. I'm very satisfied. True 'CD-quality'? I'm not sure. But it's pretty darned close. Especially when compared to mp3s.

You guys bring up some great points. Namely, that having the physical CD offers the ability to record the music in another format later on, which doesn't seem likely to be an option with the AAC version, and that even with the improved sound in AAC encoded files it is still not living up to the full sound potential. I am still holding out for now...

I bought an old Bill Cosby album, the quality of music through iTunes is just not up to snuff for the price. I might pay 4-5 for an album of rock tunes, but classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, all demand much higher recording quality SACD, DVD-A, LP or least CD. My biggest fear in all this online music service stuff is that it will take away from the record companies' incentive to improve the quality of the sound and we won't get as much on the new SACD-like formats which actually get back to the sound of a good LP. The AAC format may be better than mp3, but I'm only going to buy spoken word stuff in that format. THey need an option for broadband people to download the cdda format, so there is no loss of quality over the CD.

I think Apple's service is awesome! So far, I've bought 1 album for $10. The best part for me is the speed and ease of the 30 second previews on ALL songs. Miles above the crappy windows media and real player links found on Amazon. Makes browsing and discovering new music so much more enjoyable.

There are a few items that may keep me buying physical cd's
- I like getting the full cover art, case and booklets
- In the future when mp5 or other formats appear, original CD's will let me easily rip to the new format.
- iTunes sharing/streaming is awesome, but I'm annoyed that you cannot stream songs purchased from Apple due to the DRM.

I'd like to see them partner with Amazon and for say a $1 above Amazon's price, let you get the immediacy of a download along with a full CD in the mail.

For single song purchases though, Apple's system is close to ideal.

I've bought about 20 songs so far. It's been so easy and fun that I'm worried about spending way too much.

Most of the songs were singles from albums I'd never have bought otherwise, so I suppose that even a tiny percentage is better than nothing in this case.

I also believe that the good example of the iTunes store will breed more 'open' versions (hopefully apple will do this as well) that support individual artists or very small labels putting their songs for sale on this system.

You gotta love it.

One more note of the amount that artists are paid for their music. Although I continue to be bothered by the high cost of CDs bought from music stores, when I buy a real CD then the artist gets a percentage cut of the sale of that CD. Yes, it is a paltry sum, something that I am well aware of as a book author, but what I wonder is if artists are being paid less per song from this electronic distribution scheme since music costs less this way, which means that the artists are receiving the same small percentage of an even smaller sale price now = less money. The answer to this question alone could determine if I will ever buy a song from the iTunes Musci Store...

Being a Canadian, I can't yet take full advantage of the Music Store, which is a good thing for me right now, since I'm clean outa cash. But I love the Music Store. I was *very* skeptical about what Apple was planning, but now I see how brilliant the idea is!

In regards to supporting the 5 major music labels, I am a bit warey, but since songs *are* being paid for, then artists *are* being paid, so that's good.

I have a subsription to emusic.com, which is a monthly fee and has unlimited downloads, but very few mainstream artists. I'd say 90% of the music on there are from independents and not-very-well-known labels. There's many of those out there. I'd like to see Apple open up the Music Store to these record companies, as well. They've beat Apple to the idea of distributing electronically. :)

I had a similar phone number problem. Naturally, tech support was useless.. The problem (in my case) was that I had an old phone number associated with my apple ID that was improperly formatted. I had to go to Apple's support web site and edit my information, then go back to iTunes and try again.

BTW, then I had trouble with purchasing, and had to change my email address (not sure why that worked, but I saw it at the discussion boards and tried it....)

Other than that, it's been great!! ;)

I like the idea, the design, the functionality, the selection, etc. What I don't like is the fact that when I tried to sign in and update my one-click information, errors errupted. It said the home phone number must be 7 digits. It was. Then when I didn't enter anything, it said the are code must be from my work number and home number again needs 7 digits. What gives?
