Hi all Korineks!
I am German and my Grandparents (fatherside) came from Bohemia. My Grandfather Karl Korinek was born in 1900 in Karlsbad, my Grandmother Rosl Korinek was born in 1912, Eger. They had to leave Czechoslovakia during World War II. Before they lived in Eger (Cheb). Then they moved to the north of Bavaria, not far away from the border to Czechoslovakia.
I am very excited that obviously lots of Korineks live in the USA. In Germany we are a rather rare tribe :-)

Well, I just thought I'd add that there are several Korinek's in Cleveland, Ohio. I am married to John M. Korinek and we have 2 sons. He is the son of John D. Korinek who is the son of Bernard Korinek(deceased 1990s). I don't know further than that. I've been told our family came from bohemia. If anyone thinks we're related, contact me at jmk23@cox.net .
Thanks

My family has always pronounced our last name "core-i-neck" (with a short I sound). I remember my father saying that his grandparents pronounced it "co-jee-neck", and they wrote it with a v symbol above the R.

I'm still trying to trace my great grandparents back to the Czech Republic (Bohemia). Josef (abt 1876-abt 1918), naturalized in the US in 1900, and Anna David (Davidova) (1884-1950) were married 4/29/1901 in Chicago.

Aimee & Pavel...

My kin were originally from Czechoslovakia (Prague)... came to the states in the early 1900's. They pronounced the name as ka-WREN-ik. My g - grandfather died in Michigan in the 1940's. Hit by a train and cut off both of his legs. I have long tales from that side of the family but nothing back to Czecholsovakia. There is another variation on the spelling of the name as well. Korenek. If either of you want to contact me directly, please feel free to write to denniskorinek@yahoo.com

Hello all Korinek's!

First...Let's talk about pronounciations! Being from Minnesota....where we over sound our vowels, we pronounced it CORN-ick. My grandfather was the only boy of 6 Children. And also the youngest. All of his older sisters, who also married and "ditched" the name pronounced it
KA-REEN-ick. I would love to hear how y'all say it in Texas!!!!

I "stumbled" across this site tonight and am so extremely excited to share it with my relatives. I will be here again, because I need to find some lineage information out from my parents. I do know that my paternal grandfather is Emil John Korinek. He with the youngest of six children, and also the only boy. His father, John Korinek, came to America in the early 1900's along with his wife. (I can't remember her name) That family resided in Minneapolis, MN. I remember taking a trip with my grandparents, (Emil & Dorie) in the early 80's to Chicago. We did visit my grandfathers Aunt there, but I Cannot remember her name at this time.

The Korinek lineage intrigues me. I am very familiar with my Maternal family history, but have been "desperate" to find information about my father's side of the family. I will continue to check into my family history. Unfortuneatley my father is not too helpful in these situations! If anyone out there has connections to a John Korinek and his family in Minneapolis, MN (5 girls and 1 son) Please feel free to contact me. The oldest daughter of those six kids just passed away in March. Her name was Helen Korinek - Kalash. She resided in Minneapolis/St Paul her entire life. The other children of that family moved around the country. Some on the east coast. Some down south.

Sincerley,
Aimee Korinek-Michaelson

Hi all Korineks!

My name is Pavel Korinek and I am originally from Prague, Czech Republic. My grandfather was Josef Korinek and died about 5 years ago when he was 89 years old. His wife Ana Korinkova passed away in 1981. They had two children - Pavel (my father) and Josef who also died in 1981. I defected from Czechoslovakia with my mother and stepfather in 1980 and ended up in Toronto, Canada. When my father (also Pavel Korinek) came to visit me there in 1989, we took a trip to Chicago where some of our relatives were supposed to be living. All we had to go by was a 1950 something letter from my grandfather's cousin with an address somewhere in Roselle, I believe. When we finally found the house, the owners told us that they had been living there for about 10 years, but did not remember anyone by that name. However, we met one of the neighbors who had lived in the area for decades and she told us that she did remember the Korineks. Apparently the parents died some years ago and the kids moved to different parts of the States - one of them supposedly to California and the other(s), I cannot remember.
Well, at this point we realized that our search was over and at that time I thought that I would never be able to find out who these relatives of mine were and where they lived. Couple of days ago I stumbled across this site and the spark of hope reignited again.
I would love to hear from anyone who knows where these Korineks might be.

I look forward to anyone's response.

Pavel Korinek

Too funny. It has been years since I posted. However, I thought it was quite amusing to see that my family members are on this board. Hi, Aunt Donna, Hi, Terrissa, Hi Daddy. So, I have more news! Yes, indeed. I have some cool links for my family. Also,Chris Korinek, we are related. I know too funny, right? So, we are both related to a Joseph Korinek, he is my Great Uncle. He was my Great Grandfathers older brother. Anyway, here are some cool links. Enjoy! Please, if anyone wants to chat or whatever, it would be cool.

This link will show Grandpa Korineks' Yellow Page add for United Glass. Also, it shows our direct link to the infamous Bonnie and Clyde. Hey, I thought all of you guys were pulling my leg. LOL! Too funny.

I just received the "Final Certificate of Naturalization - Minor" of my great grandfather (Josef Korinek, born around 1876) and the church Marriage Certificate for him and my great grandmother Anna Davidova (born around 1881) from my great aunt (their only remaining living child). The Naturalization Cert. is dated October 4, 1900 stating Jos. Korinek was giving up allegiance to the Emperor of Austria and it was signed in Cook County, Illinois. The marriage certificate is in Czech and the only parts I can read are the names and part of the date, 29th (can't read the month) 1901. I have looked up some of the words and have a rough translation, so I know it is a marraige certificate. I think I may have found the ship manifest with Anna on it. If it is her, she came from Krelovice on the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse which arrived in New York on May 2, 1899. My aunt told me that the Korinek's were a big family in Chicago but that her parents stopped going to church after they got married and were shunned from the family after that. She never heard about any of the rest of the family. Josef was a saloon keeper in Chicago for most of his adult life; I think he died before he was 60. So if any of you have a (great...) grandparent Korinek that had a brother or son named Josef in the Chicago area ... it would be so great to find out more about his family.

Wow, I had no idea we were spread around so much. I am originally from the Manitowoc WI area and there are many Korineks there. There is also a group of Korineks that live in the neighboring city of Two Rivers--apparently they aren't related or there was a family spat some years back. If anyone would like info on these Korinek's, I'm sure my Grandma Jeanette would be thrilled to tell all she knows (she's really funny)I should really be getting this info from her anyway--before it is lost. Hey, there is even a Korinek Road out near a small town (actually just a place where 2 roads meet) called Menchallville--I'm not suggesting you go steal the sign or anything, (we bought ours from the county)but it might be cool for a photo. Let me know if you need anything mletter@charter.net

Timothy,

I just stumbled onto this site today and read your message first. My father's family is from Chicago. I have been looking for my Korinek ancestors for years. I can only go as far back as my great grandparents, and I don't know much about them. My father (James F. Korinek) is the only child of Frank J. and Virginia (Sigwalt) Korinek (my grandfather). He is 1 of 6 children (the others are Milldred, Rose, Jerry, Joseph, and Edward). Their parents were Josef and Anna David Korinek. All I know of them is that they came to America around 1900 from Czech Rep/Bohemia, possibly through NY, and I don't know if they were married yet. He died in the 1910's or 20's and she in the 40's. Do any of these names sound familiar to you?

I look forward to your response,
Stephanie (Korinek) Glenn

I am looking for information on John Korinek. All that I have on him is that he had a daughter name Annie Korinek born July 19, 1891 Died November 13,1977. She married Joseph Farek. Annie and Joseph had a daughter name Lille that married Thomas Shupak. Any information would be appreciated. I do not have a date on John Korinek. My e-mail address is lindamoore@txucom.net.

Who knew there was a web site of Korinek's. This is so interesting. I am currently serving in the Middle East and did a search on my name. I hope to be able to check back every now and a again. My grandfather is an only child so I don't know much about the Korinek family before him.

Hello, Krista! I just happened to return to this site, and saw your two messages to me! /m12 and /m13

Since my Sramek ancestors emmigrated in 1876 or so, all the records I have are 1875 and earlier. I have a record for Jan Korinek, born 29 prosince 1875, father Josef, house 32 in Okresanec; the grandparents were Vaclav Korinek, house 98 in Zleby and his wife Teresie Vilima; mother is Barbora, daughter of Vaclav Simunka of Chrastic 10, and Teresie, daughter of Matej Michalka.

The record for the child that died is Vaclav, b. 21 ?? 1864, died 1865, son of Vaclav Korinek of Okresanec 44; the grandparents were Vaclav Korinek and Teresie Vilima, The child's mother was Katerina daughter of Matej Hruska and Anna nee Simunka. (The midwife Anna Matousek was probably a relative of mine.)

Of course, since this is a transcription from a photocopy from microfilm, the names are my best guess. The grandparents Vaclav and Teresie could have moved from Zleby to Okresanec; that is what my ancestors did.

Hey Mary, me again, sorry but I neglected to add the DOB for my Grandfather. It is April 11,1892. I have followed leads to the Roman Catholic church and have found baptismal records from Dallas,Texas. But my main objective is to find the name of the village in CZ. I have lots of things in the works that may pan out but I'd like to follow all leads if possible !!! If you can check your records for these names, I would really appreciate it so much, Thanks again, Krista

Hi, I am interested in Mary's message. I have been doing geneaology research and I'm wondering about the info you have. I have recently found the immigration ship manifest for my Grandfather, Rudolph Frank Korinek. He came to Texas on 9 September 1911 on the Breslau from Bremen, Germany. He is listed as a citizen of Austria, from Czechoslovakia. His parents are Frantisek (Frank) Korinek and Earnestine Klein, both of CZ. To my knowledge, his parents did not immigrate. Do you have any info on these names? I have a listing for an Erna Klein who died in a concentration camp during WWII, who whould have been about the right age. If you have any info please email me. I need to know the name of the village in CZ that they came from. Thanks for your help.

Hello, Rudy, Terrissa and Stacy, hope you're all doing well. Take care..........

Hello Korineks!

My name is Maria Korinek. I was born in Neunkirchen(Lower Austria) in October 1980.
Today I found out that there are 116 other Korineks, who are living in Austria.
Every time I see our name I ask myself if we somehow are related.

Best regards, especially to my brother, Anton IV

When I received the microfilm of baptismal records for a relative who was born in Okresanec (Vokresanec) near Caslav, I found an entry for a Korinek male infant on the same page as a great uncle. The year is 1864. The child's name appears to be Vasclav. Unfortunately, he died within the year. If anyone is interested, please let me know, and I will e-mail you more details. The mother might be a great-great aunt, which means I would be related to any Korineks who belonged to this family.

How interesting to find a Korinek website! My great-grandfather James (Vaclav)came over from Bohemia at the turn of the century. My grandfather, Charles, settled in Kansas via Chicago, marrying Lillian Kroboth, also a Bohem. My father Arthur, and his brothers are the last full-blooded Bohemians in the family. (later called Czech.) I am certianly 100% in spirit! We are located in the SE Kansas region; after moving from Elsworth, KS area in the 60's, where there are still Korineks today.

My grandfather's name was Rudolph Frank korinek. He came to America when he was six-teen years old with his best friend from czech. Him and his friend had a very special talent to make leaded glass in church windows. They both worked many years together until my grandfather opened up his own company called the United Glass Company in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Before he passed on in the year 1944 he encountered a man by the name of Clyde Barrow he offered a young man a job in exchange to help someone who had lost their way in the early years Clyde was only known as a petty thief. The young man grew tired of working for a living and so they parted ways a year or two after he had worked with my grandfather. Back in the 1970's a very lengthy article was written about my grandfather, titled, "The dying Art". It goes on to mention his talent for the leaded glass business, and his homeland being that of czech, but they also mention a very loving generous man who not only cared for his family and friends but a man who cared about giving people a second chance!!!

Dear Korineks,

I am Anton Korinek IV., I was born in 1978, and currently, I am a graduate student of economics at Columbia University, New York. After immigrating from the current Czechia to Vienna, my family has lived in Austria for 3 generations. My father, grandfather and great-grandfather all carry the name Anton Korinek.

As the owner of the domain korinek.com I have repeatedly received inquiries from Korineks all over the world about my name, my ancestors etc. Furthermore, several people sent me interesting information about the origins of our name.

To make future correspondence on this topic available to everybody who interested, I have set up this discussion board. If you are a Korinek or a descendent of one, please post a message here introducing yourself and telling us more about you, your ancestors and your/their origins.

I hope you will make your contribution to this project!

Best regards,
Anton Korinek IV.
