If the recording industry would like to see the amount of file sharing to drop to nill, maybe there is a way to encourage it. Since downloading music is a popular way to distribute music and one day may replace all other types of distribution, the cost of music in general should be reduced dramatically. The will be no need to have all the physical interaction that now plagues distribution now. Doing away with the cd manufacturer, or most materials to be sure, should save a tremendous amount of overhead to start with. All the man power hours that are being paid in the creation of the cd's will also drop very dramatically. If the price to make a cd is pennies on the dollar for what is being paid, then we should be able to expect a dramatically reduced cost when merely downloading the music instead of purchasing a cd. The mere fact that the music industry does not even want to consider the fans in there decision making will make this a moot point to be sure, but it is too bad for them. I have plenty of music to enjoy as it stands and I will not be purchasing music as long as they are taking the stand they are. Not only not purchasing of cd's but all the other support I have shown to the industry by purchasing, shirts concert tickets and the like. I hope others will boycott them as I will be doing. We fans deserve better treatment than what they are showing to us. I never thought that I would have to agree with anything Michael Jackson said, but on this topic, he is correct. The RIAA is making a public relations fiasco of the threat of litigation to the tens of millions of music fans out there today. Down with the RIAA, and fight the powers that be.
