Cool!! Did Maria and the kids sing?
And where was Hugh drinking beer while all this was going on? I trust the rest of the trip was a success as well. Any pictures?

Hugh, our friend Diane and I were in Europe the past couple of weeks. Diane and I did the Sound of Music tour at Salzburg and at Mondsee, Austria (the church where the marriage of Maria and Captain Von Trapp was filmed), and who should drive up but Jean Paul driving the bus for another Tourmagination group with Wilmer Martin as the tour leader. JP said that it was his 71st trip with Tourmagination!

For those of you who do not know the way to Carl and Ruth Swart's farm, where we meet Saturday morning, here is a map. Their home is at 1494 Q Road. Q Road is also known as the Goff-Oneida Road, and is 6 miles east of Seneca. Their home is just over 5 miles south of US 36, and is on the left. Expect to see a flag flying at their driveway. The map also shows the route of the driving tour Saturday. We expect to constitute quite a caravan with more than 70 people. Please consider carpooling 4 to a car. If you have a car or van that accommodates more than that, try to fill it up with your fellow attendees. We will all have more fun and fellowship that way. Edited 08-01-2010 11:22 AM

Make your reservations now for the 2010 Zeisset Reunion. The August 6-8, 2010, Zeisset Reunion promises to be a exciting event of learning and sharing about our heritage. Our agenda is linked here and at the top of zeissetgenealogy.n3.net. With less than 4 weeks to go, it is high time to make your commitments. First, you have just a few more days to make hotel reservations. For Friday night, August 6, rooms are available at motels in Seneca: The Starlite Motel, 10 North Street, Seneca, KS, 66508, (785) 336-2191 ($45 for one bed or $55 for two) The Settle Inn and Suites, 1615 North Street, Seneca, KS, 66508, (877) 786-2494 ($80.99) For Saturday night, August 7, there are no rooms left in Seneca. We have reserved a block of rooms in Marysville, 30 miles west of Seneca, on the way to Leonardville. Marysville Surf Motel, 2105 Center Street, Marysville, KS 66508, (785) 562-2354 ($54.99 for one bed or $62.99 for two) To get these rates, you MUST make your reservation by Friday, July 16, 21 days in advance of the reunion, and must mention "Zeisset Reunion". Rooms reserved after that date, if available, will be at their normal rates, which are somewhat higher. Second, we need you to return the registration form and a check by Friday, July 16. Why? We need to tell our hosts or caterers how many meals to prepare, and we need to make enough copies of handout materials. Those of us organizing the event will have our hands full during the reunion, and we dont want to have to deal with any more money than we have to during the event. If paying in advance is simply not possible for you, at least send us the form now. The form can be folded into a self-mailer or put in an envelope. Send your form and your check to-- Ray Zeisset, 2600 Woodleigh, Lincoln, NE 68502 Dont overlook the opportunities to volunteer shown on the form. Please bring stories to tell (of your ancestors or of your travels in search of them), music to share, old photos we can scan (especially farm sites), etc. You can also place your order on the form for the new 120-page Zeisset Family Cookbook, which you can either pick up at the reunion or have mailed to you if you cant attend. Time has been set aside for visiting within family groups Saturday afternoon, after the tour. Now is a good time to contact other members of your family to make sure they will be there. Be sure to check out http://zeissetgenealogy.n3.net. Any additions to the schedule will be noted there, along with links to maps and handout materials as they are developed. Read Lorettas additions to our family story. Feel free to write us with your ideas at any time. Email can be sent to pzeisset@earthlink.net, regular mail to the address above. So make those hotel reservations, send in your registration form, and we will see you in August! Edited 07-11-2010 12:57 PM

We hope you have August 6-8, 2010 reserved on your calendar and have been talking up the reunion with other members of your family.
It is time to make your hotel reservations. Where you make your reservation will depend on how many nights you need lodging. We have reserved blocks of rooms at three hotels. If you will need lodging for both Friday night and Saturday night: The Starlite Motel, 10 North Street, Seneca, KS, 66508 (785) 336-2191, has rooms with one queen bed ($45 plus tax per night) or two double beds ($55 plus tax per night). Call now! The number of rooms available is very limited. If full, see below.
If the Starlite is full, use the brand new Settle Inn and Suites, 1615 North Street, Seneca, KS 66538 (877) 786-2494, for Friday night and the Marysville Surf Motel (see below) for Saturday night. (The Settle Inn has no rooms available for Saturday night due to a wedding party.) The rate at Settle Inn is $80.99 plus tax per night for rooms with either two queen beds or one king and a couch, breakfast included.
If you need lodging only for Saturday night: Marysville Surf Motel, 2105 Center Street, Marysville, KS 66508 (785) 562-2354, has rooms with one king bed ($54.99 plus tax) or two queen beds ($62.99 plus tax), and includes a continental breakfast. Marysville is 30 miles west of Seneca, in the direction you will need to go Sunday morning toward Leonardville.
To get these rates, you MUST make your reservation by July 16, 3 weeks in advance of the reunion, and must mention "Zeisset Reunion". Rooms reserved after that date, if available, may be at a higher rate.
Here is the plan: For those arriving in Seneca Friday evening, we will have an informal gathering, probably at the Settle Inn in Seneca, between 5 and 8 pm Friday night. Small groups will get together to go out to dinner at local restaurants.
The program will begin in earnest Saturday morning at 9:30 am and continue through Sunday afternoon around 4pm. For Saturday, Carl and Ruth Swart will be our hosts at their home four miles southeast of Seneca. The program will include a tour of the farmstead Carls grandparents established in 1896. Louise Zeisset and John Swart met and married in Leonardville in 1886, but moved on to Nemaha County within ten years. We will see the cemetery where Louise and John are buried and visit a toy museum created by a Swart relative. We will talk about the Swart family and compare their experiences with those of the other branches of the family, including yours. That evening Carl and Ruth will host a wine tasting and light supper.
Early Sunday morning, we will drive to Leonardville for a visit and memorial moment at the Leonardville cemetery, attend church together, and share a pot luck/catered dinner in Zeisset Hall at the Leonardville United Methodist Church Sunday noon. In the afternoon, Loretta will review our family story and tell us about her most recent research. We will fit in some singing and storytelling as well, so come prepared to contribute.
A draft program, still subject to change, will be posted at our website http://zeissetgenealogy.n3.net.
We will send out a final schedule and registration form in a few weeks. At that time we will ask you to tell us how many are coming so we can plan food for Saturday evening and Sunday noon.
This reunion will see the debut of the Zeisset Family Cookbook, including many recipes that date back to our ancestors. The price will be $10 or less. Early Christmas shopping, anyone?
If you have ideas or can make a contribution for the program, please write. So make those hotel reservations, and we will see you in August!

2010 Zeisset ReunionThis summer, we have something slightly different planned for the Leonardville Zeisset reunion. This time we will explore more deeply the roots of one of our branches, the Swart family. Louise and John Swart met and married in Leonardville in 1886, but moved on to Nemaha County within ten years. This email tells about our tentative plans for the reunion, but most important, solicits your input on the reunion date and a few other program ideas. We are proposing three alternatives, July 17-18, July 24-25, and August 7-8. Which ever weekend we select, our plan is to spend Saturday talking and touring near Seneca, KS, then Sunday sharing fellowship in Leonardville, 75 miles away, at the cemetery and at the church. In Seneca, our hosts will be Carl and Ruth Swart. We will have a chance to tour the farmstead built by Louise and John Swart (Carl's grandparents), see the cemetery where Louise and John are buried, and visit a toy museum created by a Swart relative. We will talk about the Swart family and compare their experiences with those of the other branches of the family, including yours. So now we need to hear from you. Just click on the link below, or copy and paste this address into your browser. Be sure to forward this message to additional people whose addresses you don't find above, or just give us their emails in Question 8. And if you have relatives without computers, why not call them and fill out a form for them. (Multiple responses from any one computer are allowed.) http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PPHCSQQPlease respond right now--it will only take a few minutes. If you need to check with someone else, try to get back to this in the next week or so, before you forget, so that we can start analyzing the results. Once we pick a date, we will send announcements to everyone by mail, but for right now, we are conducting this query only by computer. Edited 01-27-2010 06:20 AM

Thanks to everyone who attended Gladys' visitation or funeral. She would have been pleased. Actually, Gladys was not the last of the children of the immigrant 6. Elizabeth Nanninga Morlong is still living at the Leonardville Nursing Home. You can go to http://www.legacy.com and put in Gladys Llewelyn to get the obituary. I thought I could put a link to the obituary itself here, but haven't figured out how to do that.

Thanks for the notice. It is sad to mark the passing of the last of the children of the immigrant 6, the end of a generation. Loretta, we know you were a big help to Gladys.

I wanted to let you all know of Gladys Hoerman Llewelyn's death today shortly after noon in Clay Center, Kansas. Her health had been declining more rapidly for the past several months. I will post a link to her obituary in the next couple of days.

I was just reading the Zeisset Message Board and noticed a question by Nadine asking about the "rest of the trip" taken by Bettie and Allan Burns, Lee Swart and Rod Hildreth. Our trip to Prague by snell (fast)train was good, changing in Dresden, and with the assistance of the conductor in Frankfurt and Dresden we made all the connections. Others on the train assisted us with the transfer of our baggage - no small task as we were lugging several bags, including maybe the kitchen sink. Prague was a wonderful surprise for all of us. Bettie was continuing to have difficulty with her hearing aids and spent time fussing with them. Rod and I made sure we were with her at all times to keep her from falling while walking on the cobblestone streets. I would definitely recommend anyone traveling to Europe to add Prague to their itinerary.
After Bettie and Allan flew home to Dallas from Prague, Rod and I took the train to Munich where we picked up a rental car and then continued on visiting the Bavarian area of Germany. After leaving the Garmish area we drove down thru Austria to Italy for lunch (fifty miles)and then continued on driving on to Liechtenstein, Switzerland and back into Germany before heading northeast to the Weimar area of old "East Germany" where we visited the town of Lauscha. Lauscha is world famous for it's hand blown Christmas ornament industry. Much of the work is done in small home based shops with the products being sold in village stores (and through the wholesale markets around the world). I did come away with some very nice ornaments to add to my Christmas tree - actually, after buying the ornaments we asked the merchants to mail them to me at home so no problem with having to carry them onto the plane. Only two small ornaments were broken, so it was a success.
That is sort of it in a nutshell. We did have a great two weeks roaming Germany and several other countries after the Zeisset Reunion Journey. Rod and I managed to visit ten countries on this trip including a visit, before the Zeisset part of the trip, to the village of Mitling-Mark in the northwest of Germany were my grandfather, John Swart (married Louisa Zeisset), was born in 1860. Rod and I will be returning to Mitling-Mark this fall to do more family research for my family and then fly over to Cornwall, England to do research on his family.
I look forward to our next gathering at Leonardville or back in Germany!

It was a bit of a challenge getting to Germany this time. First the domestic flights were all delayed, but the international flights were not, so we missed the plane to Germany. We got on the last plane out of Chicago to London, but someone left the waterhose in the plane and it took 1.5 hours to thaw it loose so we could leave. Once we arrived in Frankfurt, 7 hours after the scheduled time, we were in a traffic jam for 2 hours. Naturally I didn't see my suitcase for a couple of days. After that we had a great trip and I significantly increased my knowledge about Kreuzfeld. Once again (due to the delayed arrival) I was not able to visit Sindolsheim. I have information to share that will be posted to the Webpage eventually. I'm waiting for some copies to arrive from an archive I visited (the copier was kaputt that day and I found out too late that my camera makes great copies). I photographed a letter from Jakob Friedrich Zeisset written in 1878.
