If Burn with Saddam did a bit of research, he would know that the Sedition Act of 1918 has changed a bit over the last 85 years. An amended version of the act remains in the code as 18 USC 2384 and 2385.

You can't really dispute the fact that paragraph #9 of resolution 1441 states that force should be used against Iraq if they did not comply. That resolution was passed UNANIMOUSLY - so what was the incentive for that? does the whole wide world want the US and Britain to get Iraq's oil? Thay are not complying. There is no reason on earth why we cannot talk to their scientists. It is an admission that they have been mass producing VX nerve gas, smallpox and anthrax.

and you can't really dispute the fact that the assemblage of troops are the ONLY reason that the inspector's are in there in the first place. It wasn't some serrendipitous coincidence. The forces need to be there.

Whoever, when the United States is at war, shall willfully make or convey false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States, or to promote the success of its enemies, or shall willfully make or convey false reports, or false statements, . . . or incite insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty, in the military or naval forces of the United States, or shall willfully obstruct . . . the recruiting or enlistment service of the United States, or . . . shall willfully utter, print, write, or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the form of government of the United States, or the Constitution of the United States, or the military or naval forces of the United States . . . or shall willfully display the flag of any foreign enemy, or shall willfully . . . urge, incite, or advocate any curtailment of production . . . or advocate, teach, defend, or suggest the doing of any of the acts or things in this section enumerated and whoever shall by word or act support or favor the cause of any country with which the United States is at war or by word or act oppose the cause of the United States therein, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than twenty years, or both....

This thread, though small it is, represents the opinions of the two polarised parties in the Iraq war conflict vis ΰ vis "declare war on Iraq", whom I shall name the DWOIs, vs "don't declare war on Iraq", likewise DDWOIs.

The DWOIs believe that by sending hundreds of thousands of heavily armed troops into a politically sensitive region in order to depose a dictator, they are somehow going to achieve stability. Of course, it's about humanitarianism and protecting American interests at home and protecting American interests abroad, not about oil, no, indeed, and how dare anybody suggest that there should be a diplomatic alternative to force, my goodness we've tried everything else and our patience is running out and the troops are there now so they might as well get busy it's the only language these foreigners understand my grandfather didn't fight the Nazis so you yellowbellied commies could have an opinion etc etc etc etc.

On the other hand are the DDWOIs who say stop a moment, this doesn't seem quite right does it? Dozens of oppressive regimes around the world that the US does business with quite happily and we're going after the one whose where our 75% stake with the Brits in oil production was so cruelly taken from us in 1972 and where recent surveys have shown there to be around $3 trillion (that's $3,000,000,000,000) worth of oil and natural gas sitting in the ground ... more than in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait combined ... hmmm. What's that funny fishy smell? Could it be ... oil?

The DWOIs like "America!" are keen on war, but mainly so they can sit in front of CNN quaffing Bud and whooping and hollering as they watch videogame footage ("Hey! It'll be in color now, not B&W like it was in Gulf War I!") of smart bombs blowing up factories (and occasionally taking out the odd hospital or school) and shouting "Yeah! Good ol' US of A! We showed 'em, eh?" while Saddam sits in a reinforced concrete bunker 30 metres below ground laughing at reports of "collateral damage" (that is, children in Baghdad suburbs with limbs blown off, their parents killed and homes destroyed) because it makes such great propaganda, with the occasional chopper full of 22 year old US GIs who thought a life in the Army would be exciting and not this living hell getting downed and roasted in a fiery wreck on some dune over Kirkud or Tikrit thrown in for his light relief.

I'm sorry I got carried away there ... but let's face it, it's what happened in Vietnam and Korea and Gulf War I and Afghanistan, just change the dates and names.

What's the best way of getting Saddam out? I don't know. But it's not war.

What about discussing alternatives to war? George W. is no diplomat. He's barely set foot on foreign soil. He's an ethnocentric who sees the U.S. kind of like those old maps--in the center of the world. The key to success in foreign relations is DIPLOMACY and patience and he has neither. Keep the un-Copyrighted protest materials coming.

And i don't see why people even bring U.S. soldiers into this at all. they wouldn't even be there if our president, who stole the elections, wasn't rushing them to war.

At least us "dummied down commies" know how to spell, punctuate, and capitalize, "Captian."

This war isn't about WOMD. It never has been. It's about OIL and $$$. The rest of the world sees this. Read some international news sites. Too bad the "conservative, post 9-11, afraid to speak the truth" US media can't tell it like it is...
Right now MILLIONS of Americans are unemployed. The economy is in the dumps. But George W. can justify spending billions on this war effort while ignoring his own citizens. Why? Profit.
BTW... Just because I don't support the war doesn't mean I don't support our troops. I just don't support the President. I'm proud of our Troops, because without them I wouldn't be able to express my opinions. People who are free to express their opinions aren't "commies" they're AMERICANS. Thank you.
