scott, it's a well known *fact* that the oil of iraq is definitely NOT the property of usa. whether you believe it or not. you also just need to look who cared/dealed with the oil fields in iraq. surely not the americans! they mix themselfs into everyones problems worldwide and have the courage to *claim* various things. it is also well known that american finances are splitted into two money amounts. one for the inland of the usa (national) and the second for the foreign countries. and it is also known (though it is called as rumours) that both amounts are exhausted.

Folks, we're a bit off topic from the photo, but let me explain my position. First of all, I do not believe that the oil of Iraq is the property of the United States. I don't think anyone in the U.S. Administration remotely believes that. President Bush has said repeatedly that the oil is the "wealth of the Iraqi people." In fact, if you want to suspect any nations of exerting undue influence in the crisis it would be either Jordan or France, both of which have significant economic interests in Iraqi oil and the status quo. War is horrible. It represents the vilest form of breakdown in human behavior. In 1991 Iraqi forces invaded the nation of Kuwait and devastated that country. The world reacted in near unison repelling their attack after five months of failed diplomacy. Once Kuwait was liberated a cease-file was agreed upon. The terms of the cease-file required the Iraqi administration to destroy all "weapons of mass destruction" and long-range weapons that could threaten Iraq's neighbors. Iraq is suspected of not eliminating its WMDs and, it is clear from the missiles launched during this crisis, Iraq maintains its long-range weapons. This is in direct violation of the cease file of 1992. This alone is grounds to nullify the cease-file. But the world waited and debated. I firmly believe that the Iraqi people will be far better off after this war. They will, for the first time since 1975 or earlier, be able to exercise self-determination. Iraq's neighbors will also be far better off with a new-found stability in the region. If we hesitated for 12 years in World War II, then there would be no free Europe or free Asian Pacific Rim. Peace, at times, is found in the forge of violence. It is not the nature of governments to relinquish their dominance over their people. At times, this freedom needs to come through the terrible act of war.

Although I feel that the 9/11 link to Iraq is weak, I'm not certain what evidence is being withheld. The suicide bombing in Northern Iraq that killed two Australian journalists today was a horrible act of cowardice that has been directly linked to al Qaeda aligned factions in Northeastern Iraq. This has been independently verified by reporters in the region. This influence in the Iraqi government represents a very dangerous link to the attacks of 9/11. This also may represent a clear and present danger to the United States and its allies if WMDs are discovered in the northeastern areas of Iraq. We are in a new era where a small group of individuals could affect the safety and lives of millions of people worldwide. I don't want to live in a world where we would allow this threat to grow. I wouldn't want to leave such a world to my children.

those two boys represent the future of Irak. they will probably live the hell of the war, seing members of their family die in an horrible way, under the bombs. The Us Administration refuses to recognize the right of peoples to self-determination. The territory of Irak and the life of its inhabitants are not the property of USA! (even less the oil...)

you're not paying attention. Everyone also knows Hussein killed so many people - the point is, it was with the knowledge and often the blessing of U.S. movers and shakers. Like Bush I when he was vice-pres. U. S. corporations gave him the seed stock for his "WMD" of course we the taxpayers compensated them forthat, handsomely I'm sure. Why would you imagine antiwar people would want to see Kurds being raped and killed? It's all part of the same sick picture. Stop living in your dream world and start paying attention.

So far this conflict has been by far the most bloodless war ever fought. I'm not certain where you get the estimate that a million children are going to be killed but that is absolutely wrong and typical of the anarchistic propaganda that, in part, is funded by groups that have received money from Saddam's regime. Kevin has been spending the last weeks with a group of Iraqi citizens that have seen hundreds of thousands of their people killed (including women and children) by Saddam's regime. These people want nothing more than for Saddam and the Baath party to be removed from power. But, it seems that people who are against this war want nothing more than to have the Kurds repeatedly oppressed, raped, and killed. How can you look at the children in Kevin's picture and say that you want them to continue in this hell?

Kids like that are already, and will keep on, loosing their families and their own lives because of the US attack on Iraq. The UN estimates that a million children will be killed by the US in this war. Many more will have no mommy, daddy, siblings or family after this is over. Perhaps someone will see fit to haul the president of the US to international court over this.

My boys, half a world way on this morning at the Wonderland School in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, California, USA - - are just the same but safe and why? I am overcome with the sadness of this and extraordnarily grateful to you bringing it all back home. We cannot overlook the convergences of life unless we choose to live as the dead.
