Any parent who has to resort to these extremes to get their child to eat "healthy" food is not doing their job. Barring any food allergies or intolerances, any parent can get their child to eat their veggies simply by restricting their access to junk. (Yes, that includes restricting their access to money to buy junk.)

No matter how much they howl, stomp, shriek and carry on, any child will ultimately eat peas rather than go hungry for more than a day or two. And any parent who rather let their child embark on a lifetime of illness and obesity rather than go hungry for any length of time has not got their priorities straight.

If food were sex, this crap would be masturbation.

Beats me what's "extreme" about kid-oriented food that's fun to eat and healthy. It's a pretty far-fetched jump from neon salad dressing to a lifetime of illness and obesity.

But I'm not sure I'd consider masturbation particularly unhealthy either. Someone has issues, I think.

(As for the hammer, I doubt teal ketchup is any worse for teeth than red, so I'm not sure I follow at all.)

Sentences with the phrases "any parent who" and "any child will" carry no weight with, well, any actual parent with experience raising any actual child.

And processing food beyond all recognition is supposed to be
healthy? I've had homemade "french fries" made from satsuma
(asian) sweet potatoes. They were good. They are simple:
sweet potatoes, oil, salt, pepper.

People get more self-righteous about telling how to parent than they do with touting open source software.

I am an actual parent of four (and grandparent of one, so far).

They are all just about at their ideal height/weight ratio, and very healthy. Best of all, though my children been making their own choices for years now, they know what the healthy choices are (and have even turned around and taught me a few).

Sorry if I sound self-righteous. Actually, I'm just grateful that I found something that works. You, of course, may feel free to experiment with your kids.

The only packaged foods we've tried out in this genre are the extra-dyed Kids Cuisines (ConAgra). I really, really, dislike this brand. I often eat what the kids don't because I don't like to waste food, and this stuff is yucky.

Nonetheless, for some reason, they ask for it frequently. I _think_ it's mostly the brightly-colored packaging, but I'm not sure. We certainly try to feed our children healthy food, but often give in to their preferences (especially on weekends). But on the Kids Cuisine, I'll usually say 'no' even when I'd ordinarily be inclined to give them what they want.

I'm looking forward to the Farmers Market starting up again - that makes real food fun for the kids, with no big food corps involved.
