But any war for beer and boobies would be, by definition, a just war.

Of course Augustine, being the dedicated party animal he was, would probably agree with you.

Plus, it was a variable bit rate mp3, not some 128 kbit/s nonsense. Go Beasties!! :-)

...And the Beastie Boys get pulled out of the rotation where I DJ, right along with Sheryl Crow.

Ignorance makes me ill.

Ignorance, eh "me?" Like war is clever or something?

Have fun playing your boy band records. Heaven forbid there be any real message in music.

People change, ideas change, but when I think of the Beasties I think of lines like "I did her like this, I did her like that, I did her with a wiffle ball bat..." Peace train, Holy Rollin', ride on the Peace Train...And then we'll sing songs of rape!

That's the funniest thing I've read all day. I can't tell if it's carefully crafted irony (please, please) or actually serious. If it's serious: unless you're running a political talk show, nobody wants to hear your personal views.

It's just gotta be a (damn funny) joke.

What's the time? - it's time to get ill.

Anyone who thinks the Beasties have been only about beer, boobies, and bongs for the past decade has been living under a rock.

Re: their old stuff... Did they make a lot of mistakes? Hell YES, #1 being letting Rick Rubin twist them into something they've been trying to move past ever since. They were dumb kids and the body of work they've done since them makes up somewhat for the juvenility of License to Ill.

With that said, yes, their rhymes are a little too derivative to be terribly interesting to me anymore, and I personally find the lyrics of this new tune to be more than a bit on the shallow side, but I have to respect what they're up to. It's not the best tune ever, but I'll take it over Toby Keith's end of the political spectrum any day.

Plus, they actually do give a shit: Yauch's Milarepa organization has its heart in the right place, and it's refreshing to see prominent hiphop musicians actually making hiphop with a POLITICAL slant again. Given the response on MeFi, I'm assuming that most people have forgotten that since (at least) Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five there's been a strong political slant to the best hiphop. Remember "The Message," anyone?

So, yeah, this "discussion" makes me sick. "Me" -- have you ever bothered to actually listen to the Beasties' lyrics before? Are you that clueless that something like this comes as a surprise?

why is everyone Jumping on "Me" here? I think you are misunderstanding the comment - he's VERY pro Beastie Boys, he's complaining that the right wing radio stations (the "ignorance" to which he refers) in his neck of the woods have stopped playing the Beasties and Sheryl Crow because of their vocal opposition to war, which is very ignorant. He's not calling the Beastie's ignorant. Jesus, people, pay more attention when you read. Sean, Ardenstone, Yes You, you're all on the same side as the poster "Me", you just need to re-read his comments. And chill. You all need to chill just a bit.

Or perhaps he's saying he himself will pull them - in which case, never mind. I took it to mean his bosses at the station would force his hand to not play their music, but maybe I'm misreading him myself!

Thank you, sean. Reading the stupid references to songs the Beasties have basically disowned ever since "Ill" came out was really getting me hot under the collar. That said, this song really bites. It's just not very good at all. I hope this isn't indicative of the next album. Somehow I doubt it, it sounds thrown together and last-minute.

i'm surprised anyone could feel dissappointed in anything the beasties might produce today considering that they've outlasted their contemporaries over a decade ago.

me personally, i'll have to listen to the whole album before i form an opinion. i wouldn't be shocked if this tune was the weakest song of the bunch.

Perhaps I misread "Me"'s comments...

It's hard to tell if he/she is a DJ at that station and is thus going to be the one pulling the Beasties from the rotation, or if he/she is bemoaning that it will be pulled from the rotation.

When in doubt, err on the side of trolling, I guess.
