Has anyone else had problems accessing OneZone's login screen on anything like a Nokia N800? ...works with my laptop, but N800 seems to be thrown off by the new redirect they changed over two last month.

Hi Wireless Bandit: I want to thank you for making this site operational. While I don't have funds at this time to donate, I wi try to free up something to assist you. Services like this are an important resource for all Torontonians. So again thank you and keep up the excellent effort that it takes to take on a project like this.

Well,

After a year hiatus I decided to reinvent wirelessbandit.com

It is up and running and we will start posting new content soon including a Google Map version of our maps db... A few more things to fix... But I just wanted you all to know first!

Folks,

In case you are wondering the ISP that hosted wirelessbandit.com had a catastrophic failure and the website went down about a month or so ago... In order to run the site it will take some cash and time so I am looking for both.

Is there anyone experienced with Movable Type 3.1 that wants to rebuild the site and run it on a reliable host? I am happy to work with you and share Google Ad funds which amounted to roughly $50 US per month... Maintaining the site involves about 5-10 hours per month.

In order to host the site I am taking donations of $20 minimum at wb1@wirelessbandit.com

Sorry folks, other projects take precedence and I need some help ...

Hi,

I'm using a Bell account in a free wireless area and can't send emails - any idea how I can get around it? Are there any free smtp servers etc?

Thanks

Your comment section on the website is not working so I'm posting this here in response to the browser market share piece posted a few days earlier.

Firefox has a google searchbar and has many extensions, IE has a beta MSN toolbar. IE can use a google toolbar also. Fine. More importantly you do realize that IE is a horrible browser full of security flawws, lacks tabbed browsing ad blocking and so forth? What makes you think this is a fad besides the weak and logically inconsistent argument that the MSN toolbar will bring users back?

I'm on a Mac so I get a half a dozen good browsers to choose from such as Safari, Camino, Firefox, and my personal favorite Omniweb. On Windows it's IE (sucks), Firefox (pretty good), Opera (bloated, ugly), and Netscape/Mozilla (bloated). Firefox is at 5%+ and climbing fairly fast. IE hasn't been updated in years and probably won't be updated until Longhorn (if it ever makes it out the door) or possibly never. Microsoft can stop developing a product that they give away for free and it can let other people work for free to build a browser.

The only question is why it took this long for people to realize IE sucks. Now when they realize that Windows sucks too I'll be happy. Although I do realize that Windows can be secured and made a decent operating system if you have knowledge, tools, and time, both OS X and some of the various forms of Linux are far better at most tasks. Except for games of course, but that's why consoles exist IMHO.

Does anyone know if there are any CF WIFI cards available for the likes of PPC's that have an external antenna jack so one can plug a cantenna into the PPC?
And if so where are they available, If got a IPAQ and was curious about this.
Also some neat free software is WiFiFoFum available for PDA's, its also got Streethawk which after detection connects to the AP's and attempts to get to google.com, it then informs you which AP's are open.
WiFiFoFum also can work with GPS.

Also if not what kind of CF to PCMCIA adaptors are available for a HP IPAQ 2200?

Cheers

Hi,

I generally have no problem connecting to various hotspots on my notebook, but I am hitting a wall at one listed spot: the Bloor Street Diner at Bay and Bloor. I see people connected, but I can't get on. I am using Windows XP -- nothing special. When I try to connect, it searches and searches without picking up an Ip address. Finally it says, limited or no connectivity and I can't get on.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi KreeperZulu4,

Thanks for your notes. Why don't you send your spots along and share with others? Our mapping system maps all spots and people know if they are pay for or free after they click on the details. Have you tried the mapping system off the right hand side?

The idea is that we are running an independent, cooperative, Toronto based hotspot service. We post all spots that are opened and CONFIRMED by real people as useful. We also delist spots that are CONFIRMED to be closed. So, do you have a confirmation that all of Timothy's spots have been closed down. That is possible since Spotnik was running them...

Kreeper, this site used to be like that but since the laws about use of people's wi-fi signals seem to be unclear, its focus has shifted to wi-fi advertised for use by the public even if it is pay for use.

If you email me and your email is not on my whitelist you will get a challenge email asking you to confirm you are human by typing in a number from a GIF. Sure why not, there are a few internet providers that are via satellite, just get ready to pay big time. Satellite Internet isn't cheap.

http://www.broadbandontario.com/

Based on this link: http://www.broadbandontario.com/assets/pdf...tial%20RatePlan.pdf

Get ready to fork over about $2250Cdn for the first year and then about $1150 each yr afterwards

Via trains also provide internet, but it's done via Bell Mobilitys X1 service. (Using Bells Cell towers).

McDonalds must use special equipment to control how the signal is broadcast maybe? I can't even find their signal in the Mississauga store unless I'm in the center of the place, and it rarely worked outside. Then again they never have coupons either. :-(

Robert,

This hotspot is already listed and confirmed:

bla is right, its totally illegal to piggyback off of someones signal. Others will tell you thats bullshit, but look at the satelite industry. Why is that illegal and we can see it? If you check the canadian laws with computers and networks, you will see that any unauthorized access to a network, and wifi is considered one, is unlawful. Im not here to tell you not to do it,just dont get caught..... triangulate and eradicate, that is the RCMP and CRTC strategy on radio pirating and war driving.

I'm having problems connecting to Fatport and NetWireless hotspots. I think the problem started when I installed the newest drivers for this (crappy) wifi card (SMC 2635W). I think I might go back to the old drivers to test out this hypothesis (which is too bad, because the new drivers seem to help out with the DHCP problems I was having)... I still hope the old drivers are on the SMC web site (if not, I hope I have the old driver installer still).

I used Ethereal to snoop on my network traffic, and it's full of "ICMP Destination Unreachable" messages when doing DNS queries. I don't have these problems connecting to, say, Bell AccessZone (where I am now).

Anyone else having problems connecting to Fatport or Netwireless?

As I see it, there was no theft of "communications". He didn't break into any computers, nor block/alter/view data coming in and out of them. There is no indication that he did anything to bypass security measures of either the network or the machines on it. There is no indication that he did nor intended any harm to the network or its users.
He used net connectivity, apparently with all hardware functioning as designed and configured. It is the operator of the network that is responsible for configuration including access permissions. Many run hot spots intentionally, some through ignorance. In either case, the host is functioning as an ISP. What's relevant here is regulation of the wireless access to the ISP.

In the U.S., 802.11b hardware is allowed unlicensed use of spectrum, as regulated by part 15 of the F.C.C. rules. Part 15 products are required to include a notice: "Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interferrence, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undersired operation." Harmful interference refers to that affecting licensed communications only. Are there licensed users of this spectrum? Yes.

All ham radio licensees (except Novices) are authorized by the FCC Rules, Part 97.301(a) to use all operating modes in the 2390-2450 MHz band. 802.11b equipment is not allowed to interferre. A ham could reasonably ask anyone using 802.11b gear to stop operating if they cannot otherwise correct an interferrence problem (typically by changing channels, lowering power, reducing antenna height, changing location, using a directional antenna etc). The 802.11b gear operator has no regulatory protection against interference from the ham operator, other 802.11b users, or even microwave ovens which operate in-band at 2450 MHz.

In summary, 802.11b gear is unprotected from interference, and the operator of such gear is on their own to try to make it work as desired, with no guarantee of success.
802.11b hardware is being used as designed when people, known to the host or not, access open networks. It isn't communications theft nor is it tresspassing.

Man steals wireless internet signal to download child porn
November 21, 2003 - 4:50 pm
By: Anne Winstanley

It's a first for Toronto Police, and its not good. Police are issuing a warning for anyone who has wireless internet because those signals extend beyond the four walls of your home, and can now be used by child pornographers driving down the street.

It all began on Wednesday when a man was caught driving the wrong way on a one way street in the west end of the city. He was half naked and had a laptop in the passenger seat.

Det.-Sgt. Paul Gillespie says the man doing something called war-driving, he was accessing an internet signal from a wireless network based in a nearby address. He was downloading large amounts of child pornography using a program called Kazaa.

A search of the man's home in Delhi, near Simcoe, has yielded hundreds of thousands of computer child porn images. Gillespie says this is the first child porn arrest Toronto Police have made tied to war-driving.

Police have some advice for users of wireless networks, activate the security features that came with the software, and don't place your router near a window or outside wall.

I'll private email you the link.

The only reason I'm not posting the link is that I don't have tons of bandwidth.

Hey folks been alittle while since I've posted.

Anyways I've gone ahead and started a mailing list for GTA Wardrivers.

Have a look at my blog for more details:

What else has been going on. Built a new antenna, works MUCH better then the other 'mobile' antenna had had built(details on the blog).

Also anyone else see the Wardriving Segment on the TV Channel - Toronto1?

Followup to /m102:

WiFi-enabled Second Cup locations will give you a free 4-hour access card for the price of a coffee! It seems the cards can only be used once per account (introductory offer), but one could simply move to a new account once the time has expired. Creating a new Hotmail address seems to be the only effort needed to start using another of those cards.

Needless to say, I've been hoarding cards like crazy, buying a small coffee-to-go each time. The downside: I'm developing a taste for Second Cup coffee...

Anybody know of a wifi coffee shop in the suburbs?

All of the ones on any list that I can find are downtown. I live in North York (Don Mills area) and would love to find a coffee shop somewhere around home that I can go to and use wifi.. I don't mind paying; I was just introduced to the idea of coffee-shop wifi while in the USA last weekend.

The easiest way to submit a hotspot is to email wirelessbandit@rogers.com and I will post them. I'll take a look at the fatport listings. There are several new hotspots that opened (esp with Spotnik) that take a while to enter. Anyone wanna help?

not all the fatport locations are on the wireless bandit maps.

i don't know what the best way to submit access points is... anyway, i could have sworn someone mentioned this one already, but i couldn't find it when searching the wireless bandit blog entries. the food court in the atrium on bay (dundas st w & yonge) has a fatport (commercial) hotspot, from the croissant tree cafe that's there. note that the mall itself is open a lot later than the cafe is.

Hey guys,

Just sharing a story with you. Was about 3 weeks go, last night of school (Academy of Design in the CBC building) and I had 2 hours to wait until I could catch a bus home (bout 11pm at night) and I wound up spending it curled up underneath the Harveys Access Zone (with the pay phones) in Union station with my laptop in my lap, sitting next to the only working power outlet I could find in the entire concourse. 2hrs of surfing, playing Starwars Galaxies and chatting to MSN, begging a ride from friends. Turned out to be a pretty decent time, a heck of a lot better then waiting in the rain watching the bums beg nickels.

Thought it would be a good story, basically my fondest moment of putting WiFi to use.

i've used the netwireless hotspot at the second cup at 179 college street. it was great. i asked about it at the counter and they gave me a free 4-hour trial card. also the rates seem much more reasonable than spotnik, at $4.95 for a single hour (90 day expiration), $6.95 for 4 hours (4 hour expiration), $9.95 for a 24-hour period, $34.95 for a month.

Since 802.11g is backwards compatible to 802.11b, it has to slow everything down, since the .11b card won't be able to stick with the .11g/54mb speeds. So, in theory the network would be slowed down to the max .11b/22MB which would defeat the purpose of using .11g. You could setup an .11b AP to handle those clients seperatly as an alternative to slowing everything down. Now, i've never used 802.11g before, so flame me if i am wrong.
Red  92
08-08-2003 11:25 AM ET (US)
was wondering if anybody knew about whether if you use a 11g card, and the service is 11g as well, obviuosly you'd run at 11g speed.
but then i read smoewhere that since 11g is backwards compatible, if someone else on the network is using 11b, then the everybody on the network is using 11b.
does anywbody know if this is true?

Ok, heh. I am talking about Windows. I stopped dealing with Linux a LONG time ago. Ok, now...The little BiQuad antenna gets 12dBi ?! Hell, i'm gonna have to make me one of those. Now, there are cards that openly support monitor / promiscuous mode on Windows, such as the Cisco 3x0 (340, 350) series, and pretty much any PrismII based card, but it is extremely difficult to actually get these cards into the RFMON mode. AiroPeek NX has special drivers that will put a Hermes card (Orinoco, Compaq WL110, etc...) into monitor mode and capture the traffic. I want to be able to stick the card into monitor mode and capture traffic, so now I have to get a new card, that supports it or upgrade to Windows ME, 2K or XP. I'd rather get a new card, so right now i am looking for a card that uses the CW10.sys driver as I know how to put it into monitor mode. If ANYBODY has or knows of a card that uses the Prism chipset and CW10.sys or prismnds.sys drivers plz let me know. Yeah, the theme for my Win95 desktop is from QNX which i am dual-booting. I've got WindowBlinds with a custom skin, and a qnx wallpaper i already had. that's about it, i love this board. kthnx.

Man your confusing the hell out of me. I thought you wanted windows not Linux. Anyways. For Linux I followed the instructions found on: http://airsnort.shmoo.com/orinocoinfo.html

To check to see if the drivers are working do a
# iwpriv

You should see in the list MONITOR.

To start Kismet off I do a :

# kismet_monitor -H ; kismet

that starts the monitoring/scan and loadup the kismet front end.

Ok back to the antenna. I did some testing with the satellite dish, but to tell you the truth, it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. There is a fellow in my area with a open AP which I use to "TEST" my connection and signal. With the satellite dish I would get about max 16/17 SNR with the BiQuad it self, I get max 11/12 SNR.
I might have to do alittle more testing. But I will tell you one thing for sure. That BiQuad is one HOT antenna!!! The cantenna I have isn't as good. But again it's a LARGE can and I think it's alittle on the big side for wifi(2.4ghz) so I might have to try a soup can or something in those lines.

As for the gain I'm not sure, but i think it's in the 25db range. The BiQuad is about 12db but I think for some reason it's more. Or the satellite dish isn't 25 or anywhere close to it. Not based on my tests tonight.

Your page is interesting, how did you get to change the theme? Looks good, I thougth it was a linux distro :) Sure doesn't looklike Windows :)

And that was bad in changing the SSID! hahaha, the fellow in my area has his AP WIDE WIDE open, he's even left the AP's PW default. I've gone in a looked but haven't done any changes.

No, i am not talking about using netstumbler or any other 'active' scanning, i'm talking about passive scanning like Kimet does when it issues 'monitor mode' or 'promiscuous mode' to the card, and will capture all RF 802.11 frames in the air. Hm...about those parabolic dishes, how much dBi do they get ? I built a little cantenna out of those mini-cans of pasta sauce and it works awesome, i don't know what it gains, but it works like a charm. anyways, i have 2 pages i maybe some of you would be interested it that i made a few months ago : http://sinking-feeling.com/~semen/

Yes, but what did you use to stick you card into monitor more, and then capture the 802.11 frames ? I will put 98 on it, if you know that it's possible, and that i find drivers for AiroPeek NX or any other Hermes Chipset based 802.11 sniffer that'll run on Win9x. If not, i'm going to install (shudder) ME, cause 2K/XP probably won't fit on my 1.33gig laptop, that's it, thanks.
Digiital  79
06-16-2003 11:23 AM ET (US)
I don't think I did anything funky. I just installed and away I went. If I did get any drivers. It was for the card from Dell. I also did the hack firmware upgrade on the Dell TrueMobile card I had to 8.xx I forget the exact version. The hack makes the card think it's a TRUE and no rebranded orinico.
semen  78
06-16-2003 09:24 AM ET (US)
If I stick 98 on this laptop, what drivers would I use for monitor mode ? The only Windows drivers are for 2K/XP (WildPakets AiroPeek NX) that i know of, and these obviously won't work on 98. You say you've used it ? What was the setup 'n all ? If you claim it to work, i'll stick 98 on it and try it out. Thanks.

Windows 95? Well that might be one of the reasons your not getting the card into monitor mode. If you can install atleast 98, I believe I used it for a day or so in 98. But right now I'm running on XP.

...To add onto my other post, I am thinking of getting a Prism card, what version chipset should i get ? 2, 2.5 or 3 ? I basically want it, because after everything i have done, I am unable to get my orinoco into monitor mode in Windows 95. So, if there are any recommendations i'd gladly take them into consideration. I might buy a Linksys WPC-11 and use the 'monitor' mode app from Sniph, and then just use Ethereal to capture frames, but i'm not even sure if that will work, so suggestions are welcome. thanks.

I downloaded WarLinux 5 iso, stuck it on my HD, used Tom's Root 'n Boot rescue disk, mounted the ISO chroot'ed to it and then i could run kismet and the such, one problem is i keep getting the error "ERROR: Reading config files 'usr/local/etc/kismet.conf' : 2 (No such file or directory) Unable to parse config file. I don't know why this is happening, maybe because i am accessing it from the RAM so it can't write it to anywhere, and when i try to vi -i it, it tells me there is no such file, yet when i 'ls' i can see both .conf files.

WarLinux is just a LiveCD bootable CD. Loads kernel 'n all into RAM and then runs from there. I know it is possible using an x86 emulator in Windows but I am looking for an alternate way. As for Semen's question.

1. The connector, it's hard ot tell from the drawing, is there anyway you can take a photo of it?

2. The distro. I don't think there is anyway you can place WarLinux on the hard drive then boot from it. Not sure if there is a complete install or it's just a bootable CD.

I was wondering if there was a way I could download an ISO (WarLinux) to my HD and somehow boot to it because i do not have a CDROM drive on my laptop. I just want to know if it's possible, like using WinImage to strip down the ISO and extract it to a folder and then er...booting to it ?

kthnx.

I believe I was reading something about 'make config','make all', and something about 'build'. Anyway, I don't have the linux folder in /usr/src/ so I guess I don't have the kernel installed. I'm downloading 2.4.20 right now.
Digiital  57

This is Mandrake right? You don't need to download the kernel or recompile it. Just the network drivers.

I'm assuming your running Orinico Gold card right? Same thing I have and all I did was compile the drivers. Took 3 mins.

I've read that Kismet only works with Prism-based cards. Is this correct? I'm using an Orinoco Gold. I plan on installing Mandrake 9 on my laptop (dual-boot with WinXP) just to try out Kismet. :) Any thoughts on this?

TML is right, I've done the samething and Kismet puts NEtstumbler to shame in how it's able to pick up ALOT more AP's. Then again they do work different, Netstumbler sends out and ping, and Kismet only listens.

One other feature that I like about Kismet, is that it's able to 'watch' the packets. realtime.

Check packetninja.ca for Canadian AP scan's. Anyways, I ordered an Orinoco pigtail, got it and it's got the WEIRDEST N-connector i've ever seen. None at the regular electronic/hardware stores. It's male N-connector, with a depressed cylinder and a pin in the center, check the ascii sk1llz :

threads on outside
|------------------
|===== <- the pin
|------------------
threads on outside

So, i need a female little cylinder with the threads on the inside, that will fit inside this and have a little cap that will screw onto the outside of my connector...confusing. I was wondering if there was a way i could possible just build my antenna onto the end of the pigtail, but i've been told it might not work...can i just solder a huge piece of metal onto the pin ? anyways, keep up the good work WB. AND i've got some software issues, i've been hacking 2K/XP drivers to work with my 95 system to put my card into monitor/promiscuous mode to no avail. i'd also like to stuff WarLinux or run QNX with kismet on it, but i'm having trouble with drives, so if anybody can help, great. apart from that, i've been wardriving for like 4 months and loving it. kthnx, bye.

WOW!!!!. I have not been on this site for a while and I was pleasantly surprised at the number of discussion. I think this is cool.

I just configured a RedHat 9 IBM laptop and installed Kismet. I drove from Brampton to Yorkdale mall and picked up so many more APs than I would have normally picked up with Netstumbler. The best part was when I loaded the Kismet log to Ethereal, I was able to see people's password in clear text and plaintext email. I am a newbie (2 weeks experience) with Linux and Kismet but I think they are a great combination.

Just wanted to say my $0.02.

Beefy,

You're getting a signal all over Streetsville? I wonder if they're trying out something new... There are many WEP cracks out there. Try KisMAC or Kismet...

After a bit of scanning today, I found that I received the no-SSID, no MAC address Bell-AccessZone signal for an area about 3Km in diameter covering all of Streetsville in the West end of Mississauga. Still can't get access to it though and I can't seem to pinpoint the origin. Again, if anyone knows ANYTHING bout, would be much appreciated. Specially if u happen to know what WEP key the access-zones were using at other locations, maybe its the same.

The SSID is TheSonyStore and it is located on the lowest level of the Toronto Eaton Centre on the west side, north of the fountain and south of Coles. There are no benches outside the store (because of lots of kiosks) and the signal isn't strong enough anyway. There is no problem using it inside the store as Sony advertises with banners in the store window that it's open for use by anyone. No one bothered me using my laptop in the store except a salesman who was interested seeing my Orinoco Gold wireless PC card after I had finished. Maybe someone can check out the Teluswifi SSID that I saw outside the store which was quite weak and probably coming from the Telus store to the south of the Sony Store.

t0x0rg,

Can you give us some more details and I'll post the confirmed access point into the rest of the blog... Ideally the SSID, the exact location of the store and any other pertinent points. For example can it be used outside the store? Thanks!

I tried the Wireless Zone at the Sony Store at the Toronto Eaton Centre today. The AP is right in the back so I had to go into the store to get a connection (height of geekdom: walking around the Eaton Centre with a laptop displaying Netstumbler graphs, hehe). Also noticed a Telus wifi SSID when outside the Sony Store and will have to investigate in the future near the Telus store as my battery died :-(

K guys, I'm real confused here.

I've have a wireless card in my laptop for a few weeks now and always as a habit, open NetStumbler at least once a day at home just to see if a neighbour has set up a WiFi network yet (I can't afford one). Just today, I finally got a hit but NS shows it as 000000000000 for the name and no other info. When I check the Dell Truemobile software it shows up as BELL-ACCESSZONE. I've tried doing a bit of research and can't find any info on this other then an age old press-release when Bell started setting up Access Points.

Here's my info:

Mississauga near Britania W and Erin Mills.
Exact is Bonham Blvd. and Turney Drive.
Dell Truemobile 1500 running on Win2000
NetStumbler (newest version)

If anyone knows anythign bout this sort of setup I'd appreciate it if they could help me try to figure this one up.

I'm a total newbie to all of this, but I assume to access some of these nodes you're using sniffers or something right?

So has anyone see what I'm about to describe before?

I FINALLY got my Orinoco Connectors on Thursday and built the pigtail at work. Hooked up a alligator clip(about 6 or 7"s) didn't have a antenna at the time and it worked ALOT better then the internal antenna. Anyways, earlier this week I also compiled/installed Kismet on Linux (if you have Linux, and haven't installed this application, then you HAVE to get this app going, it finds stuff that netstumbler doesn't even blink at), alright back to what I found.
I don't have the info handy right now, but I found a AP, if you want to call it that, that in Kismet it didn't have a 802.11b channel AND the SSID was cloaked, Kismet has the option to 'watch' the data, so I'm watching. Their were tons of junk packets about 4-5 characters long, and then the USER and PASS started to show up and then email messages. There were as well packets that looked like connections to the network(references to Domains....) what I thought was funny if you want to call it that, was I saw the User name and Password as someone logged into the database. Whats interesting this about this, is that they to the trouble to hid themselves with the cloaked SSID and somehow disable the channel iding AND then forget to turn on WEP.

Anyways thats my adventure for today, all of this took place around Hurontario and 401. One thing for sure this was AP was dealing with the insurance biz.

I thought I saw some software to crack WEB already. Let me do a quick search .......

Humm maybe I was wrong, looks like it's only for Linux
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wepcrack/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wepattack/

Speaking of Linux, has anyone played around with KisMet? Seems like it's a better in some ways then Netstumbler, but it's only for Linux, can get it to work with Windows, but it's a pain from what I understand.

Anyways. I'll play around with it tonight see if I can get it to work/compile on my laptop.

If your just going to be using it in the backyard, then I don't see why the internal antennas wouldn't work. They say in a clear field you can get about 1000ft point to point. From the house to backyard wouldn't be more then 100 ft. So I can't see why the internal antennas wouldn't work. Now if you want to play with external ones, then just using the hubs antennas as-is, and then build a cantenna for the heck of it.
WirelessBandit1  12
03-29-2003 03:49 PM ET (US)
Aha I think I see. Let's see I had my hub on 2nd floor in the front of the house and I wanted to use it on the deck and even further back in the backyard. I'd assume the Vertical Antenna at the hub and a cantenna... It would be interesting at least first to get the cantenna to see how it works and then see if I need anything else.

So the real question is -- can a cantenna attach to an AirPort card in an iBook or is this a PC only solution?
Digiital  11
03-29-2003 12:57 PM ET (US)
I haven't done it myself, but based on my other hobbies(Ham Radio, Bud(Big Satellite dishes)).

First of all need to know a few things.
How far away do you want to use the laptop from the hub?

If you can place a antenna up high, in a clear area and your planning to use it in a WIDE area, then go for a Vertical at the Base, and a cantenna on the laptop. If your going to be using it Point to Point, then I would go for 2 cantennas.

If that doesn't answer the question, then provide alittle more detail as to what your trying to do. Thanks

Answered my own question with the signull and cantenna websites. Very nice. So if I want to extend range do I put a cantenna on BOTH the hub and the wireless PC Card on my laptop? Or just at one point, say on the hub or say on the laptop. Kind of new to this range extension biz, can you tell?
