Ok, my college profs back in 1993 said that during Desert Storm Iraq used IRC to communicate even though other forms of communication were cut off. She used this as an example of how strong the Net was. It also demonstrated one of the original uses for IRC as a possible post-war communication tool. Was she full of shit?

I've heard others defend IRC for use in such situtations, I
still can't stand it. :^)

It seems to me that the US would have minimal interest in
stopping the Iraq internet if they have any means of eavesdropping.
