"Violence and destruction is counterproductive. These demonstrators might as well be working for the Bush white house." -Bingo. Can you say Agents Provocateurs?

On the other hand, the SF rallies were big enough that the BBC was mentioning them on the radio. I didn't hear any other US rallies mentioned.

Never underestimate the power of pissing people off to change the public's mind -- against you.

A little while back there was a protest of a police shooting that briefly shut down an interstate, and one interviewed motorist basically said: "I supported their cause earlier, but because they've inconvenienced me for ten minutes I've change my mind completely."

LeftBlank, I totally agree. What was the point? That you can BART in from Emeryville into SF, make some noise, screw up the day of a bunch of people who agree with you, kick around newspaper racks and then run back to your nice little comfy suburban homes? WTF? Go do that shit in your own neighborhood and stay out of mine. For the 2nd night in a row they've basically blocked my way to some volunteer work I needed to get to.

The media in SF have done a thorough job covering the rallies, so there shouldn't be any complaints here. The one bright spot on this sober day was the Chronicle's WAR headline, which, with a little extra effort, could've achieved a full Onion by placing the R on the second line.
Thanks for the link, Dave.

The protesters in Portland have been pretty busy. They shut down I-84 and I-5. Past rush hour, but still not a great idea if their goal was to make friends, though.
If their point was to give the finger to the "shut up or leave the country" crowd, they've made it.

Violence and destruction is counterproductive. These demonstrators might as well be working for the Bush white house. They are destroying the credibility of th peace movement. They are fucking idiots.
