Once there was an ice cream shop that gave away FREE vanilla ice cream, and lots of people like vanilla, and lots of people LOVE free stuff, so they would get free vanilla ice cream and they were very happy. Then one day, the shop started carrying chocolate ice cream, and then they hired a new person who really liked strawberry and they carried that too. Then some of older, OG patrons, from the free vanilla-only days, did something remarkable - they complained about the free ice cream shop!!!

"Hey, I don't really care for these new flavors, this free chocolate ice cream - it's too dark and hurts my teeth" was followed with "I came here for my FREE vanilla ice cream, and while there is plenty here, I can't stand how there is all this strawberry ice cream in front of me when I belly up to the free ice cream counter for my free vanilla fix - I don't like strawberry!"

Isn't that amazing? the ice cream is all free, and there is still is plenty of free vanilla, but the proprietors of the shop STILL have to catch grief from all of the chocolate and strawberry haters who bitch about something they've never paid for anyway, ridiculous no?

Nobody OWES you shit when its free.

But Paul, there was no "Bush=Hitler" in the article. That was implied here in QuickTopic discussion, if at all. So your point is disingenuous. If you didn't want to hear about politics, why did you push the "discuss" button under the political article?

I must not be communicating clearly.

I WAS COMMENTING ON BB IN GENERAL, NOT THIS POST IN PARTICULAR.

Cripes.

And I know we're not owed anything. Can't a guy complain about the changing tenor of a site he used to love? I'm glad the ice cream shop hired some new people who like different flavors. If I don't like strawberry, I avoid it.

But if I can't avoid it ... if every double scoop they sell me has one strawberry in it by default ...

Maybe BB should be more like Slashdot, where my "Ignore Jon Katz" setting has been working for three years now.

As Myron Cope would say, "Yoi and double yoi."

re: ignoring posts
Technical nerdy types (the kind that lament for the old days) should have no problem grokking and parsing the RSS feed version of this site to be the vanilla paradise it used to be in their minds.

ah ... i'm not the nerdy type (at least, i think i'm not). i forgot about the RSS feed. i have a reader at home that'll do it but the IT folks at work frown on installing "illegal" (read: non-MS) software.

thanks for the reminder!

Looks to me like people have understood your point pretty well, Paul. They've just thought your point was dumb.

Come to think of it, so do I.
