I forgot to mention that I thought the New York Times article has a different feel than the Guardian UK article. The American's message seems to be that American attempts of being gracious invaders seems to be paying off. Read and decide for yourself.

<p>BTW, Pat, read the article again. The Guardian reporter says that if the American soldiers did this sort of thing more often, and weren't so afraid of the Iraqis that they shoot vanfuls of women and children, then they would earn the Iraqi trust. You're a silly poster, imho.

Seems to me the U.S. troops were trying to get the pump running. Seems to me they and the farmers did. What's the writer actually trying to say? U.S. forces lack goodwill? In what way did their actions with the farmer show that? Silly article imho.
