Yup. The costume wasn't that great, but the photos and the angles made you look absolutely comestible!

I am currently working on transferring photos to a new, more spacious server (courtesy of the generous Ben).

Do you mean the Halloween costume pictures? When I went emo?

Just from mefi meetups and whatnot. She's a fellow record geek.

And yes, that is one badass mothafuckin' tattoo on Martin.

re: people pictures

They are my favorite to look at. I forget sometimes, when I am snapping photos, what it is I most like to see.

Lucky for me (I guess...), most of my friends are all incredibly good-looking. From now on I'll be sure to pack the camera when hanging out, keeping in mind that you all aren't as tired of seeing their ugly mugs as I am. (I can call them incredibly good-looking and ugly at the same time--they are my friends.)

As far as the taking of them, well, yeah--it can be difficult. Most people's instinct is to pose or cheese for the camera, and those pictures just aren't interesting. It's difficult to photograph friends without them a) asking you to put that fucking thing away b) sticking out their tongues and flashing peace signs and/or c) squealing for you to "erase that now, before I kick you!" This is not so true for friends who also carry a camera regularly and fancy themselves pitcher-takers. They feel your pain and generally try to maintain loose stances and expressions that aren't contrived--even if they do feel weird and stiffen up waiting for the shutter to fall. You know, the "oh shit, he's taking a picture, I don't wanna smile, but I'm embarrassed, and he knows I know he's taking it, so I'll just cock my head to the side and stifle a smirk" pictures? The with the subject all wide-eyed, like "Who me?"

But yeah, more people = more gooder. I'm on it.

And jonmc: How do you know the lovely Jen?

Isn't Martin's tattoo cool?

I agree completely, ben. She does seem to do it well. Mine always turn out looking like shit. Portraits aren't hard to make OK, but very hard to make really good. With random shots, at least you have that unpredictability factor thrown in that can generate interest.

::sigh::

Consider this a stand-in for all the times I could give compliments but won't because I don't want them to get stale.

pixie's comment get me to thinking about how it's a huge challenge IMO to take good photos of people, even in some cases posed portraits. People are unpredictable, in the way that only people are.

Or maybe I don't have the knack for it. Britt does, or will. (Have to ask her how she feels about it, I don't see where she's said one way or the other.)

I love that door picture. It really messed with my mind for a while. Thanks!

Though your environment pictures and macrophotography are quite good, your pictures of people make for more interesting web copy. Sorta like a day where you get to ride along on Misc. Etc's shoulder like a skwaking parakeet.
