Eek -- too much multitasking; I made a mess of that last post in more than one way. I'm sorry.

Please avoid driving on *ANDERSON* during the big Jamestown commute, say 7:45 - 8:10 am and 2:30 - 3:00 pm, to allow kiddos a safe walking route.

Please stop at the top of Mesa and see if anyone is already on the hill or waiting at the bottom, before starting down.

Please drive slowly.

Please attend the Town meeting on 1/7.

Summary of various winter driving discussions:

The current, prevailing strategy is to avoid driving on Mesa during the big Jamestown commute, say 7:45 - 8:10 am and 2:30 - 3:00 pm, to allow kiddos a safe walking route.

I've learned from some Jimtowners that Colorado state law holds that the person at the bottom of a hill has the right of way. It seems that all of us who drive to/from school could manage on Mesa if the people at the top just make a habit of peeking over before starting down.

This topic will be on the January 7th Town meeting agenda. JES parents, maybe we could arrange cooperative childcare.

Just to add to the discussion from a driver of a front-wheel drive Honda, sometimes I haven't been able to get up Mesa and have to use Andersen, which gets more sun. Just ask Rowan and Quinn about the scary slides and the pushing they've had to endure!

Sorry that happened to you Chris. You're right...it is dangerous when we're not all on the same page.

In the past, we've always instituted a school-wide agreement to travel UP MESA when approaching the school (for either pick-up or drop-off) and DOWN ANDERSEN when leaving. This has worked well in the past, except it hasn't been instituted town-wide, so we still run the risk of meeting someone on either road who doesn't know this policy.

I think it would be a good idea to bring it to the town, but CLOSING ANDERSEN, as was proposed, would only force everyone to go up AND down Mesa, which would also be dangerous. I would totally support a one-way direction for everyone, if the town would agree. As for the walkers, I think that if there is ANY CONCERN WHATSOEVER about safety, either supervised or on their own, then parents should reconsider allowing their kids to walk to school.

Just my two cents from a direct observer of many near-miss accidents on the corner of Andersen.

Good morning everyone,

It would be very wise for us to pick a rationale -- any rationale -- for driving up to the school and back, and agree to abide by it. I might easily have gone off the (Mesa Street) hill this morning with two children in the car, because someone decided to plunge down when I had already started up.

It seems that there's more confusion when the weather is bad. Would reversing the flow of traffic make it easier for most of our cars to get up the hill?

Could we put this to a vote? School-community or full-community? Or just request that the town mandate a one-way circle? Now that we have many more children at the school, it's really unsafe. We will all feel a lot of remorse if there's an accident and a child is hurt!

Thanks,

Chris
