As most of you have likely heard, there is a worldwide investigation underway on the swine flu. This email is to update you on Boulder County activities related to swine flu and where you can get up-to-date information for Boulder County, the state of Colorado, and the Nation.
Update: Boulder County Public Health is working closely with state health officials and the local medical community to quickly identify people that may be infected. As of April 27, 2009 at 11 a.m., no cases of swine influenza have been reported in Boulder County.

Precautions
Individuals with mild flu-like illness should stay home, regardless of travel history.
Children and adolescents with fever should not go to day care or school.
Adults with fever should not go to work until their symptoms resolve.
Individuals with severe illness, such as difficulty breathing, should contact their health care provider.
Just as with "regular" flu the following precuations will help to decrease the likelihood of spreading illness:
Wash hands frequently
Cover your sneezes and coughs
Avoid others with respiratory illnesses
Prepare
This is a good time to make sure you and your family are prepared for an emergency that might require you to stay at home for several days. This includes considering having food, water and other necessities. Visit

Symptoms of swine flu
Similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu in humans and may include: Fever greater than 100°F, sore throat, cough, stuffy nose, chills, headache and body aches, and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu.
Swine flu is passed from person to person and not from pigs or from eating pork.
