We have people out today checking the piles. They are very secure with snow completely around them. They have been put out and are mopped up. If we get enough snow out of this next storm we will be continuing to burn either at Peewink Mtn or in upper James Creek and will notify people as such. Thanks.

Hey J'townians...I just had the best meal ever at the merc! The food and service is just the best. What a way to spend late Saturday afternoons!
Sarah is just so sweet..what a lady...the best salad, glass of wine, french fries, even a sundae....and...all I had to do was walk home. I had a hamburger there about 3 months ago (I'm not a meat eater by trade...just once in awhile) and the best I've ever had. Kudos to the merc...and many many blessings. JM

I concur...MERC REVIEW #109848392093485720-Q

Thursday night's dinner at the Merc was, to coin a term, FANTABULOUS! So many tastes that integrate and melt in the mouth -- WELL worth the price for a hearty, filling, delicious meal in a relaxing, fun atmosphere of neighbors and extremely talented musicians. Oh yeah, the beer is great and always served with a smile!

We are truly blessed to have such WONDERFUL, skilled, friendly, TIPPETY-TOP CHEFS right here in our very own backyard. Thank you Rainbow, Lulu, Sarah F., Matt, Sara M., Alex, Karen A., Bud-day, and special guest chefs for putting LOTS O'LOVE in our food!

Rainbow, you are doing a PHENOMENAL job with our commUNITY hub and I ain't just butterin' yer bread!

J.A.M. CLINIC -- SUNDAY, NOV. 8, 4:00pm @ THE MERC
"PRACTICAL MUSIC THEORY FOR REGULAR FOLKS"
$12 at the door, all proceeds will go to J.A.M.

Hey neighbors, very sorry I didn't post this a little sooner, but I just want to remind everyone of the clinic that I will be teaching tomorrow (Sunday...might already be "TODAY" by the time you read this). My intention is to give an overview of music theory that will be applicable for any musician, at almost any ability level (except perhaps more advanced players who already have a decent grasp on music theory), regardless of what styles of music or what instrument(s) you play.

You do not need to be an advanced musician AT ALL to benefit from this clinic. I believe I have a way of cutting through the complexities of music theory and boiling it down to some basic elements that are in play in virtually all of the music that we listen to. So if your knowledge of music consists of knowing nothing more than a few chords on the guitar, you can still gain a deeper understanding of those chords and how they fit together with other chords, etc.

Here's a little rundown of some of the things I'm planning to cover:

--The "musical alphabet" and the major scales
--Keys and key signatures
--The structure of major and minor chords
--The structure of more complex chords
--Chord progressions and the functions of the chords within them
--Transposing chord progressions into different keys
--An overview of the modes (time permitting)

I'll also save time at the end for general Q&A about music theory questions that people may have. I don't anticipate the clinic taking more than 60-90 minutes.

Hope to see you there!

Paul

I've been out of town for a while, and upon my return, I've found catching up on "the Old QTs", is like a part time job! So...If you have anything to sell, trade or give away, want to advertise your business , need a trade person, got a house to sell or rent, want to find a house to buy or rent, please visit our Jamestown and Bar-k 4QT at http://www.quicktopic.com/42/H/m6ZUjCutJHFN , or visit the Bar-k QT and easily link from there ! It's free to and easy to post, just like the other QTs [judging by the voluminous efforts I read today, folks have got that part down] . Sal joined "Team 4QT"as a sponsor this year, and I'm sure he agrees with me, this is a NO POLITICS,GOSSIP,NO RANTS, NO 'TUDE', NO SPIN ZONE QT FOR ONE PURPOSE ...to give mountaineers a place to find other mountaineers for the pursuit of free enterprise!! All other posts containing the a fore mentioned shenanigans will be quickly deleted ! So please visit the 4QT and see for yourself [with over 3,500 views ,some folks are finding it]. It's your hometown version of Craig's list and it's always Free! [sign up bargain hunters, and you'll be notified via E-mail] Now, I've gone on so long, I've become part of the verbosity problem.....

CALL TO ACTION

Dear Jamestown Area Resident,

On Wednesday, November 4, 2009 the U.S. Forest Service Boulder Ranger District unveiled their draft Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) that displays where motorized travel will be allowed. The public can provide written feedback about the draft MVUM by the end of the day on November 13, 2009. We are asking you to please help by writing a letter to the Forest Service to keep the current level of protection of the forest lands surrounding Jamestown.Map attached to next posting.

Impacts:
* The Forest Service is claiming jurisdiction over County Road 102J (Ward Road). The MVUM map shows the segment of 102J from Gold Lake to James Creek as a Forest Service route, not a County route. As a Forest Service route, they could remove the gate at Gold Lake and the middle gate allowing public use of this road. The segment from James Creek to Jamestown is not on their map, indicating that this segment is not a legal road. This would create a situation for the Forest Service to add the section from James Creek to Jamestown in future travel management decisions, thus reopening CR 102J (Ward Road) to motorized recreation. The Boulder County Commissioners closed CR 102J to the motorized public to protect the James Creek watershed that is the source of drinking water for the town of Jamestown and Left Hand Water District downstream.

*The MVUM shows a new connector route around the south end of Gold Lake. The Forest Service intends to provide public motorized access from the south end of Gold Lake onto CR 102J via Forest Route 371.1 and 372.1G. Currently, FR 371.1 is a motorized route that ends at the Spring Gulch outlet of Gold Lake and then continues as a non-motorized trail to CR 120J. Forest Route 372.1G does not currently exist on the ground. Were these 2 new connector routes established through a NEPA process? These newly created connector routes would enable OHV use from Gold Lake to James Creek and to Gillespie Gulch and through lower Main Street in Jamestown. The Forest Service has said that they have the legal right to remove the gates in Gillespie Gulch and to have through access over private property. Opening up public vehicular access from Gold Lake through Jamestown via Gillespie Gulch would impact the town of Jamestown.

Concerns

*Degradation of Public Lands and Watershed: The decision to reopen these public lands to OHV recreation would result in degradation of these public lands and water quality impacts to the watershed that supplies drinking water to the town of Jamestown. These lands are in the designated Source Water Protection Area of Jamestown.

* Lack of Enforcement: The Forest Service currently is unable to provide personnel to enforce the resource damage from motorcycle abuse in the Gold Lake area. The Forest Service does not have enough resources to enforce the laws in these back-woods areas and does not have funding to reclaim the lands that are currently in need of restoration.

*Public Safety for the town of Jamestown: Reopening the OHV route through Jamestown will create a serious public safety issue for town residents. The southern access to Gillespie Gulch is from lower Main Street in Jamestown, a residential area and school bus route. OHV recreational use in this area around the Town would increase fire danger from camping, personal safety from shooting, and encourage destruction of adjacent private property.

What You Can Do:

Write a letter to the Boulder Ranger District at the address below requesting that County Road 102J be kept as a County Road; that the gates on 102J be kept where they currently are; that the connector routes not be established around Gold Lake; that they respect the right of private property owners to gate access to their property; that they respect the community of Jamestown’s right to a safe neighborhood; and that they protect our drinking water supply, the James Creek watershed, from reckless OHV recreation.

Also, send a copy of this letter to the County Commissioners and State Representatives at the addresses below. On the bottom left of your letter write cc: Boulder County Commissioners Senator Mark Udall, Congressman Jared Polis.

Get your neighbors to write letters. No form letters please.

Send letters by the end of this Friday, November 13, 2009 to:
