[a panning shot of an art gallery opening, camera slowly focuses on a grim gentleman, late thirties, goatee, black turtleneck. he's being interviewed.]
reporter: what's your medium of choice? lithograph? oil? watercolor?
artiste: I feel my main inspiration comes from GIFs... primarily Ready.gov icons.
[fade to black]
Altering Ready.gov images doesn't count as a medium, but ignoring that I was simply questioning their quality based upon their humor value in which case being the first to tell the joke certainly *does* count. Why else would Mike Judge be rich?
I'll agree that Ready.gov images are ridiculous and the advice is subpar, but I don't find the Homeland Security thing funny. It's grim.

I don't know monkey -- I think the point is that: a) the images are ridiculous b) this is supposed to educate the public, and it has such sterling recommendation as: You may or may not want to place iodine pills in your emergency kit c) given the general hysteria over homeland security this kind of thing is funny d) and just because it has been done 'before' doesn't mean that it isn't funny or useful anymore. Oh no! Some else wrote a piece of music before me--too late! Its the content that counts, not the medium, but I certainly understand why this medium has attracted attention. If all that counted was medium, then since you weren't the first to post a message, write a blog, make a web page (dude, DarpaNet so already did that) etc.

Sweet baby jesus, that's what people come up with when they sit down and think about things? Complete non sequiturs?
I'm still missing the point of the parodies. It's not like Ready.gov is some 50's-H-Bomb-retro-kitch website.

... I don't get it. Every parody is the same joke. And it's a joke http://www.mnftiu.cc/ already told. Next week, are hip New Yorkers going to be wearing "I fucked Tom Ridge" t-shirts? Is there some sort of insincerity in ready.gov I'm missing that has inspired all this ridicule? [And, no, I don't buy, "it's part of the government's attempt to scare people into supporting the war!"] I ~do~ understand the sense of helplessness that has spawned a million Ready.gov graphics captioned with the same limp "You're fucked!" parody. But jesus, it's the same emergency preparedness you should be doing if you live in earthquake country or tornado country or hurricane country. Acknowledge and move on. -am And if some terrorist crap does happen I hope everyone sipping warm smug out of their Cafepress mugs appreciates the new irony it just acquired.

Apparently, ready.gov was designed by:
Ruder Finn New York 301 E. 57th Street New York, 10022 tel: (212) 593-6400 fax: (212) 593-6397 email: rfnewyork@ruderfinn.com
Craig Martin, Managing Director 808 17th Street NW Suite 600 Washington, 20006 tel: (202) 466-7800 fax: (202)887-0905 email: martinc@ruderfinn.com
It seems likely that the work for Homeland Security was done in NY or Washington, not Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, London, Paris, Jerusalem or Tel Aviv where they also have offices.
I just thought you guys might like to know who to send fan mail to...
Dude, they do _excellent_ design. I wonder if they handle Hill and Knowlton's graphics and website?
