I like Ken Parker's quote so much that I'm going to use
it for my signature for a while:

I am in favor of any war in which the commander in chief, the vice president, the secretary of defense...will personally lead the troops onto the field of battle with their sons and daughters in the second rank. --- Ken Parker

Two points:

1. Mr. Parker's statement that "Cheney and Rumsfeld never served a day in the military" is incorrect as to Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld served as a a Naval officer, 1954-57, reaching the rank of Lieutenant (junior grade) and becoming a naval aviator. Mr. Parker should check his facts.

2. It is true that Cheney never served in the military. Neither did Polk or FDR, to name two fairly successful war presidents. Neither did Jefferson (president during the Tripolitan War, 1801-05). Lincoln served, sort of (he was a captain of militia in the Black Hawk War for about a month), but never saw combat. Bill Cohen, SecDef during the Kosovo War, didn't serve either. So what was Mr. Parker's point again?

I've translated the following paragraph from the German magazine "Deutsche Nachrichten":

“The researcher compiled information from polls conducted in over 100 countries* around the world ranging from two days to two weeks prior to the ‘target of opportunity’ strike. The results estimate that 92.4% of the world’s population is against a war against Iraq without a U.N. resolution authorizing such an attack. Surprisingly, 61.2% are opposed even with such a resolution.”
