>I rocked out, full on, to Journey's "I Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore" in the car

It was REO Speedwagon, not Journey. You're being deliberately young.

But, yeah, great piano/guitar on that one, and great lyrics. Lead singer Kevin Cronin, poofy hair and all, played the living crap outta that acoustic guitar in concert, just daring you to pay attention to the guy playing the solo on the electric.

Kinda like a male Stevie Nicks.

Also, "throw away the oar" was always a troublesome lyric for me...

...why not just sing "row continuously in a circle for perpetuity, because the plural form was troublesome to rhyme, and also because I am Steve Perry's lesser, if you can indeed conceive of so lowly and wretched a thing".

What the bloody fuck is a "speedwagon", anyway?

Turns out I have lot to say on the topic of early 80s shit-rock.

You're fortunate you didn't mention the EBM movement, I got all kinds of vitriol for Front242.

An early 20th Century fly hoopty.

The Speedwagon was an early attempt at an American sports car, made by Ransom Eli Olds. The company was known by his initials, and later took on the name of one of his more successful models, the Oldsmobile.

Fly Hoopty would have been a much better band name.
