did you listen to NPR recently? they had story on the 'branding' of the upcoming (yes, it's coming, i'm sure of it) war. even the transitions between reports is now being call 'the swoosh' (i think Nike can sue over that).

now, i did read an article today (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-602210,00.html) about certain, hand picked journalists will be 'embedded' in the military. mostly American journalists - but others as well.

still, this probably won't affect the quality of the report - but still, they're getting closer to 'the action' than they were allowed in Desert Storm I.

...and i believe it's the same article that said if DSI was a video game, DS2 will be a reality show. heh - i like that.

Oh we're going to war. I think that's pretty clear.

I missed that NPR report. Which show was it on? All Things Considered? I'd like to hear it. They probably have an archive up.

I like how they, even some detractors, try to soften war these days. Using descriptors like video game and reality show tries to make it sound less like reality and put it into fantasy. Granted, in some cases that's the point. In others, the point is satire. Still, a war by any other name still blows things up.

Actually, printing titles like that(or something like that), was started around the Spanish-American War, when Yellow Journalism started. Because of the World, and another newspapers overdramaitzation of the USS Maine incident, it gave the government the fuel to start the war with Spain they wanted, so that sugar companies could invest more in Cuba.
