From: > Reply-To: Gain > Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2008 16:54:43 +0200 Subject: [Gain] fwd: Statement in Solidarity with Zim Women - Pls distribute widely
Dear all
As you all know, things in Zimbabwe are not well. For those not directly in touch with people in Zimbabwe, you will have read the press coverage this weekend. This is a statement a group of us feminists in Cape Town have put together, building on the calls being made by Zimbabwe feminists for an immediate resolution of the cabinet formation process in order to install a government that can deliver on the immediate needs of Zimbabweans and restore begin building a new Zimbabwe.
For those in Cape Town, we urge you to join a silent march between 1h30 and 2h30 tomorrow, Tuesday 28th starting at Community House in Salt River and proceeding to 49 Roodebloem Rd - Woodstock where we will hold a press briefing.
WE ARE ASKING WOMEN WHO JOIN THE ACTION TOMORROW TO DRESS IN BLACK AND WHITE AS ZIMBABWEAN WOMEN HAVE IDENTIFIED THIS AS THE COLORS OF THEIR PROTEST ACTIONS AT THE RAINBOW TOWERS IN HARARE FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS!
The press briefing will be preceded by a briefing by Zimbabwean feminists who will talk about the conditions of women's lives and why a solution must be found now. The press briefing will start at 1h30.
The statement is being sent this afternoon to the Zimbabwean political leaders (Mugabe, Tsangirai and Mutambara), heads of negotiation (all three sides) and the facilitation team (former president Mbeki). Please forward to women you know in Cape Town and if you have press contacts please forward them to myself, at this email or number below.
We will put together a press release later today to invite the press and we will send that to you and urge those of you with media contacts to forward it to media houses and journalists you know.
For information on the solidarity actions, call: Jean Beukes (083 721 3966) Lucille Kennedy (073 1990592) Sipho Mthathi (082 576 2990) - siphomthathi@ gmail.com
Please also note that we will be gathering at 49 Roodebloem Rd Woodstock for the next few days so if you can't join tomorrow you can still join on Wednesday 29th.
