HorizonLive (although I haven't seen a demo yet) has the ability to allow two grousp to work with each other on a program where one group can see another one. I am sure with technology strides we will be able to view each other both ways one day. Also, the university is looking on purchasing another package that will do the same thing - except that one wil be able to view both ways. A lot of IT is involved - I think you are both in for a great experience on Tuesday whether it's comparing packages or just making the connections. See you soon! :)

Kika that sounds great. I'm really excited and I hope this works. I'm looking forward to it. I've been doing some research about available funding. At first glance it seems like there is alot. I have been doing searches and reading some of the basic information. If it seems like our collaboration meets the criteria, I keep the site on a list I've created. I will look deeper into these sites as I get more time. It seems like things are moving along nicely. Keep up all of your hard work. See you guys on Monday.

Today I talked to Blanca and things are looking good for Tuesday, I just need to talk to Argentina on Monday morning to alert them the I am going to try to get on line from LIU on monday afternoon. I also have the papers to print the images from the children in argentina. Blanca told me that as today there is a big possibility the they are going to see us but we are not going to see them. Lets see what happens, this is because of the vendor. We do not have to give up this is possible and maybe we need time and trial and error to put our dream together

This sounds like it is right up your alley - talking about making lessons to share with others around the world, not just connecting and talking without a purpose - or at least with am educational purpose - sounds better. Sorry I've been out of touch for a while. I've been dealing with alot of personal stuff. I did go to the Videoconferencing workshop on Wednesday. I really enjoyed it. We made connection with the Musuem of Television and Radio in Beverly Hills, CA. We did run into some problems with the connection so the video was choppy and delayed, but the audio was perfect. It made me so excited to make our first connection. I don't know if you've been going to the Roslyn message board, but I think you guys are both authorized by now. I should see you both in class on Monday.

Hi Guys! Kika and Danielle - great collaboration work today. I think what we need to find out is all the technology infrastruture that the schools have that we want to connect to. What kind of modem or cable connection do they have. Do they have access to the internet. Do they have webcams? etc. I think if we were able to connect the kids before the 20th too via something like quicktopic just as an introduction it would be important in setting the stage. I AM HOME TODAY, I was in a workshop last night, I am going to night again. Lets see where are we going, it is frustating at times, I will call argentina in a few minutes because bette asked a few questions last night that I do not know, I will keep you poseted.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I have been reading your messages. It seems like you are both making great progress with making the connection happen. I'm so jealous that my school is not as open minded as both of yours.

The conference call went ok. We didn't cover half of what we wanted to. What we did do is start a bulletin board similar to this, however you need to be registered and get a user name and password. I just sent Ed Salina an email asking him to register both of you so you both can follow the progress and post messages as well. I will let you know if I hear back from him or he will email you himself.

I'm going to Florida for part of the vacation, but will try to make it to the EEV workshops during vacation if I'm home in time. I'll see you both on Monday and we'll talk some more.

I just wanted to let you know that the Ed Tech has just hired David Van Esselstyn who comes with significant experience especially in the areas of simulations and creating virtual realities. I just spoke with my technology coordinator and she told me that she has someone working on a connection with a school in another country for me (us!)She said that it may happen by the end of the year!!! And, if we make the connection and the other school doesn't have a camera, my school will by one for them! WOW!

Hola, yesterday my sister called me, she has the first grade students working, she told me that one of the children draw helicopters dropping harts instead of bombs, this tell us that children all over the world are watching the news. She told me that she will choose some of the drawings and take digital pictures of them. I mentioned to her how to write only the first name, grade, shcool and country only. They are close today becuase is a holiday remembering the Falkland War, I will be home early tomorrow so I am going to try to talk to Ivan, the computer teacher to have a sence of what they have. I will not go away during the break so I will come to the collaboration, maybe we can plan a something for us to get together that week. Please lets plan ahaead. gracias kika

It's great that you are doing a webpage for our collaboration. I am not having any luck with Dreamweaver and I wasn't doing my webpage on our collaboration, but it makes sense. Perhaps if you are having some success you might be able to help me. I don't know how Kika is doing but I feel like I'm ready to give up with Dreamweaver. I will talk to both of you tomorrow.

That was great news. It must be nice to be in a district that is helpful and willing to try new ideas. I am not so lucky. I don't know how things are moving along with the school is Argentina, and Kika might be making that connection in her classroom, but I'm sure we can find another school if that doesn't work. I know that there is a school in Portugal (and I believe the language is somewhat similar, but I could be wrong). I mentioned to Kika at a workshop that I got an email asking me to join a conference call with all the people that are involved with this project. The conference call will take place on March 25th and I will be sure to keep you both updated on the discussions. I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THE WAY THINGS ARE SHAPING UP!!! I will see you both on Monday.

I was just speaking to one of the heads of technology here at Lynbrook and she was a former member of TEAM. She said that if we find another school to connect with (hopefully the one in Argentina) we can use my class and the equipment here at Lynbrook! Apparently we have a room that is set up and some new cameras!

I've been calling this the Classroom to Classroom Portal Project (CtCP) when discussing it with my dad. This is how you will see it refered in any of the email conversations between my father and myself (and any contacts he has made) If you want we can keep it and keep things consistant, or if anyone objects to that name we can call it anything else you'd like.

Great!! I will look over the action plan again! I will also bring a hard copy of it to class next monday...we can go over it as a group and maybe ask for some input from our profs!! Also, I was going to try to base my assignment 1-dreamweaver project around our collaboration...it can be a start to our real web page...is that what you guys are doing? what should we call it?? Classroom Web Connection?? Anything sounds good to me! let me know any ideas!

I registered for that workshop on Apr. 23rd even though it said that it was not ready. It allowed me to register and it sounds great. If I am not going away I don't want to miss it, so I registered now to ensure myself (I hope) a spot if I am going to be around. I should know in the next couple of weeks if I will be around. Kika, I think it would be better to send the description of the collaboration rather than the action plan if you haven't sent it already. For one I think to description better explains the collaboration and the entire direction we envision it going...where as the action plan is only showing our professors where we plan to be within a specific period of time (in this case by June). Secondly, I am not happy with the action plan. I feel like it does not give much information. It seems as though it keeps repeating the same thing again and again. I hope I caught you in time to not send it...if not, OH WELL!

Let me commend all of us for our work so far, it might not seem like much, but we've all managed to keep one another informed throgh this QuickTopic (which is a feat in and of itself), and considering 2 weeks ago we didn't have any clue what collaboration we were going to be part of and with whom, it seems to have all worked out for the best. Buen Dia!! How is everybody, a lot of things to do with my children, but I talked wiht my mother and father on Saturday and they gave me some input, specially mom because she is an art teacher too. Most likely today or tomorrow I will be sending Ivan the description of the action plan so he has something for Monday when they start school, there is a meeting of staff at the end of the day, and I think both my sister and him will like to introduce the idea to the staff.
Danielle the adoption of a classroom I have no idea how is it done, Ivan does not speak English at all, I can send you his email and my be he can make a connection with another teacher in the school,the school is up to I think ninth grade, they add a grade as they move along, is small but one of the best specially in English language. I was just reading through some of the workshops and saw the upcoming workshop An Examination of Distant Learning on Mar. 15th. The description of the workshop sounds interesting, it doesn't specifically discuss what we are doing within our collaboration, however, our collaboration seems to fit right into the concepts in the workshop. I am going to try to attend that, I haven't registered yet because I'm not sure I can go, but I'm working on it. It might be good if at least one of us does go...see if there is any pertinent information to us, and it would be better if more than one of us attended. Anyway...see what you guys think, and in the meantime I'll let you know if I'll be able to attend.

I still haven't seen the action plan. I have been going crazy trying to check my e-mail, but for some reason, it's not working!!! Hopefully it will be up tonight! Keep in touch!

Hi guys! It's been a quick and crazy week! Wow! We have so many great ideas flowing!! I haven't seen the action plan yet, is it in an e-mail? I will check that next! I can't believe how much progress we are making! I am still working on getting permission for my kids to come on May 20th, but I really think my district would love to be involved in the connection with other countries. My chairperson thought of something like..."adopt-a-class" or something...who knows where this can go!! Your progress is great. Things seem to be moving along really well. I don't know if you were referring to sending our action plan to Michele and Jim or if you were referring to your contact Ivan Bours. I definitely would not send it to Ivan Bours, and I don't feel the action plan that I forwarded to you and Danielle is ready for Michele and Jim either.

Did you both have a chance to look over what I wrote on the action plan and make some changes?

Hola, Angie and Danielle I just hang up with Ivan Bours the computer/Tec at my sister's school, he needs all the information, he thinks is great, he even said that if necessary he will get a satelitt to make the connection, I told him that we are looking to just use a web camera!!! He thinks is a great idea. I need Lenney to send me the email with the power point he showed us to explain the quilt part, do you think we should send the action plan this weekend or wait until monday, this is now a better day!!

Angie, I email lenny this morning, it is early and late at the same time, I need to get to church and school later. Have a great day!!!!!

PS: I forgot to tell you:My sister told me that Maria Luisa, the principal of her school is planning to come to USA in May, Los Angeles, well maybe with all of this we can change her plans!!!!!

I was also giving alot of thought about Lenny's quilt idea, and I was thinking about maybe talking to Lenny about taking his idea globably. Maybe we have each of the schools which get involved with our collaboration add to the quilt. They would add patches to it and display it for a period of time and then send it to another school in another country who is participating and so on and so on. I don't know if I've explained this part of my idea too well, but I will discuss it more with both of you when we meet again.

Keep posting good news...its the best to log onto this QuickTopic and find a response with some promising news. It makes this collaboration seem one step closer to reality.

I have not yet heard from Sophie, but I will keep you both posted.

Hola Here I am with great news, this is going to be short, Diego is crying, well I just finish talking to my sister, she is totally in it, the idea of peace for her is great, she is now reading folk short stories about Madela and she was thinking of using him and the stories in some art projects. SHe gave me the phone number of the Tec teacher at the school, she will be talking to him tomorrow I will call him at night. THis is great news, she wants the crayones, that is something else.. for me this are great news. Does any one know which team is Leing ( did I spell the name correctly) so he can send me the power point presentation and may be the pictures of his quilt... I am very happy and looking foward to all of this. I talked to may sister in law, my nice is at the school and my nephews go to another school and other names came up to do this too, let see.

Hola , I went to the quick topics and after I read all the emails, you description is excellent, as usual you say everthing so well. I am going to show all this to my chair tomorrow, she thinks is a great idea, and she hopes I can bring some students to do this wiht me may 20. This will help me explain to her what are we doing.
About the other TEAM that is doing a similar collaboration, may be we should try to get together some time when they meet. We can ask when they have class and I will change my schedule to meet them. I will volunter just because I live the closet to the school, well I do not know if Danielle

Hi everybody, I know I have not been on line at all this week, this was one week that if can erase it, I will. Well about the collaboration. They say that Argentina is broke, that there is no money, but I do not know were everybody is, I talked to my brother that has one child in the school I want to make the contact with, and he thinks it can be done, but I have to wait until this coming week to talk to the principal because she is on vacations. I knew that this was going to happend, but there is nothing I can do. I am hopping to come from school early enough on tuesday to call the school directly. My sister is on vacation too. My brother is going to try to get the phone number of the principal so I can call her at night. Angie do not worry I know that I should had talk to you some time during the week. Sorry. I will see you tomorrow. It is going to happend but many things are happening at the same time that need my attention. sorry

As you should have seen from Blanca's email there is another collaboration going on within HHH 2004 TEAM that is somewhat similar to ours. I think it would be great to perhaps combine these collaborations. It would give us more ideas, more support and more people to help achieve our ultimate goal. I am waiting for Blanca to email me with the email address of those other members, but before I email any of them I just wanted to get your feelings about it. I don't want to do anything that will interfere with the dynamics of our group. I really believe that the three of us work well together and I don't want to make any decissions for the group without consulting you both. Let me know how your both feel about this. I sent this message out to both of you via email as well, in case you don't check this board as regularly as your email.

P.S. Kika, I know you have alot going on with work, family etc. but as this collaboration gets on its way, we'll need to stay more connected. I know you are doing your share, but we need to stay updated with the progress you are making. Not to mention part of our grade for the semester is based on our participation in these QuickTopic discussions. I hope you take this as constructive critisism and that you aren't upset about my saying this. I'm just trying to help make our collaboration a true reflection of our hard work, in which you are very much a part of.

Danielle, it's great to hear that your chairperson was excited. That sounds promising. Perhaps they will be interested in participating. I still don't know what's going on with me and May 20th, but I'm going to do my best to attend, with or without students.

As I mentioned, I will email Blanca with a description of the collaboration. If either/or both of you could work on the action plan it would be great. If you need any help with it, just let me know. Perhaps whoever ends up doing it should email it to the others before submitting it and we can look it over (and make any necessary changes).

I'm really excited about what we are starting. I think everything ended up for the best. Now we have a smaller group, but its a group that is motivated and interested in the collaboration which can only lead to success. I look forward to working with both of you on this project.

We all must make one committment to each other and that is to work hard and stay connected. We have to keep in touch at least through this Quicktopic if nothing else. Hi! Ok, it looks like I will be able to come on May 20th and bring kids with me!! Another teacher my come too...who graduated from TEAM a little while ago. My chairperson was very excited about the idea and I just have to check with the assistant superintendent about transportation and stuff. I think maybe we should set our first goal as to connect with Argentina on that day (My 20th) and possibly have my kids and Kika's kids communicate with them (and everyone else) We can also add to Lenny's workshop that day. I am also working on finding out if my school has any web cams. Again, my chairperson was very excited about the idea and hopes that one day Lynbrook can communicate with schools in Italy, Spain, England everywhere...He would love just to start with e-mail or quicktopics.
