The article implies that foot-long lengths are within reason
for mantis shrimp, but the ones here are getting on to 1.25'
(15 inches). That's not quite so scary as imagining a regular
shrimp reaching these lengths.

In Japan, the mantis shrimp is known as a shako. They are quite tasty. Looks like something from the movie Alien, however.

Big yes, but not all THAT bigger than the average Mantis Shrimp. They can naturally grow up to 10 inches, with 12 inch ones on record. It's not like a 1-2 inch regular food shrimp that super-sized.
