FWIW - I recently had to replace an aging Apple Airport base station and have had GREAT experience with the D-LINK products. I purchased the 802.11b router (model 614+) since I do not have an 802.11g card. The signal has been EASILY twice as strong as the Apple counterpart. I get full signal from well over 200 feet THROUGH THICK CONCRETE (I live in an old Sears warehouse that was built in 1918.) And that is while using a Titanium laptop w/ built in airport. D-LINK has an 802.11g station that I would not hesitate to buy if I had reason to. Check them out if you are planning to purchase an Apple branded base station. It's $100 cheaper and has external antennas out of the box. Plus admin is done using a browser and is EXTREMELY easy to use.

Thanks for the post, dxtr. I am sure that the problems with the new base station are not widespread, or at least I hope so. Glad to hear you are using it without any problems at all!

Hi,

I have had my LittleAL with an XBS running nonstop for 6 days now.
ZERO problems, easy to configure and doesn't even break a sweat with my 1.3Mb DSL.

I just setup an XBS at a friend's house. It worked fine when I plugged it into the cable modem, getting a connection right away. However, I could not admin it. The Apple discussion boards provided the solution - unplug the Extreme from the cable modem and recycle the power. This worked, and I was still able to admin it after reconnecting it to the cable modem. (this is ATT/Comcast BTW). It hasn't been running long enough to get more of an impression than that, but if I were to do this again, I'd powerup the extreme, admin it to get it set right, then connect it. Also, remember that by default it does DHCP/NAT, so if you have a router that does this and the Extreme is connected to that, you should disbale this in the Extreme.

Hello, this is Rob Miller of http://www.basestationrepair.com. Many Readers have reported problems with the Extreme station. I did not read other the link yet, but maybe it was mentioned that a band-aid solution is to un-plug and then re-plug the station back in. However, this is a temporary fix as the station usually cycles down again. It has been reported by many users that the Apple stores are taking back stations and replacing them, even if they were purchased elsewhere, such as MacMall, etc. I am keeping close tabs on this and have asked readers of my site to respond back with feedback as well. Thanks.
