Who knows what baby peking ducks eat?

Hi, Trixie

When we had baby ducklings we used a starter mash. Same for baby chicks. This can be purchased from any feed store. Blue Seal has it and so do other feed stores.

We have had 2 white peking ducks for about 4 years. We got them when they were 3 days old. What is their life span? Two mallards have joined them, and the one has stayed for the whole winter months and has been here since last summer. Our one duck and one mallard have developed a limp. The one white peking does not look good, and that is the one with the limp. Any answers for me? Most importantly, how long do they usually live? Thanks!!

Pekin ducks generally live about 3 years. Mine developed a limp before she crossed, but she also had a lump on the bottom of her foot. That lump was treated with a salve used for horses hooves. I kept her caged so I could keep clean papers under her until she healed. I applied the salve twice-three times daily, washing her foot before each
application. The lump healed, but she continued to limp. I thought it might be from our clumsy goose who was also in her pen. She was a love and I was sorry when she crossed, but she was in my arms when she did, so she knew I loved her. Too bad they only live about three years. The goose seems to live forever.

Hi,

I have two Pekin's and don't know much about them. Can you introduce a Drake to two Ducks and still have the ducks lay? Thanks

This happened with some chickens I had. My former rooster was killed and the hens ganged up on the new one. So, I put him in a separate pen and introduced one hen at a time leaving them with him for a couple of days before replacing her with another one. After I did this, I finally put him in with all of them and stood watch. They accepted him. You might try that with the females. As for two drakes, there will always be competition.

  hi gail

when your pekin gets to be a couple of months probly about 3 monyhs he will get 1 or more feathers that curl out and back toward the head this is called thedrake feather only found in males.

Hi Mike, thanks for responding. I suppose I have a male then. I had thought because the other ducks were ripping the neck feathers out that it was a female.
