Hi Carolyn an average life span is 6-12years.Your duck may just be showing signs of age and limping is a common problem for pekin ducks, not to worry it will heal over time.

I have 2 pekin ducks that are 6 years old. This entire time ive assumed they were both drakes because they have never layed eggs. Though i have always suspected that one of them is a female because she is smaller than the other and she is always bullied and pecked at on the neck. But recently i have noticed that she is getting fatter and finding it difficult to walk because she is bigger now. Is it possible that she may be laying her first eggs at such a late stage?

Hi Mike, thanks for responding. I suppose I have a male then. I had thought because the other ducks were ripping the neck feathers out that it was a female.

  hi gail

when your pekin gets to be a couple of months probly about 3 monyhs he will get 1 or more feathers that curl out and back toward the head this is called thedrake feather only found in males.

This happened with some chickens I had. My former rooster was killed and the hens ganged up on the new one. So, I put him in a separate pen and introduced one hen at a time leaving them with him for a couple of days before replacing her with another one. After I did this, I finally put him in with all of them and stood watch. They accepted him. You might try that with the females. As for two drakes, there will always be competition.

Hi,

I have two Pekin's and don't know much about them. Can you introduce a Drake to two Ducks and still have the ducks lay? Thanks

Pekin ducks generally live about 3 years. Mine developed a limp before she crossed, but she also had a lump on the bottom of her foot. That lump was treated with a salve used for horses hooves. I kept her caged so I could keep clean papers under her until she healed. I applied the salve twice-three times daily, washing her foot before each
application. The lump healed, but she continued to limp. I thought it might be from our clumsy goose who was also in her pen. She was a love and I was sorry when she crossed, but she was in my arms when she did, so she knew I loved her. Too bad they only live about three years. The goose seems to live forever.

We have had 2 white peking ducks for about 4 years. We got them when they were 3 days old. What is their life span? Two mallards have joined them, and the one has stayed for the whole winter months and has been here since last summer. Our one duck and one mallard have developed a limp. The one white peking does not look good, and that is the one with the limp. Any answers for me? Most importantly, how long do they usually live? Thanks!!

Hi, Trixie

When we had baby ducklings we used a starter mash. Same for baby chicks. This can be purchased from any feed store. Blue Seal has it and so do other feed stores.

I got three Peking Ducks for my grandson on Memorial Day weekend. We seemed to have really domesticated them. Now we can't get them to live at our pond since right after we turned them out of the yard and one was killed. Can these kind of ducks live together with the wild ducks you see at parks? There is a place that would be beautiful for them to live at a place of business. It has kept grounds, flower beds and large pond. The wild ducks there have been seen on nests etc. Is this a good idea to leave them here? I don't want them to be hurt.

Someone has dropped off three young peking ducks by my house as we have a pond in back, these poor babies don't know how to defend themselves against the other birds and ducks that are picking on them. I've tried feeding them corn and bread but they want eat. I'm worried that they will die soon if I don't get someone to come and pick them up so they are protected. What food do they eat? Need help!

There is a website for a farm that sells Peking ducks. I found it the same way I found this one...simply by typing in Peking Ducks. If you are in a rural area, chances are there is a farm which has them. Especially since yours just showed up. Pekings are not wild, they are domestic. Also, animal feed stores often offer chicks in the early spring. They are generally by special order only.

We have enjoyed a male and female peking duck couple for over a year now at our small pond. Recently a new neighbor moved in and their dog attacked and killed the female while nesting. I would like to replace her if possible. I am not sure where to look for another. This couple adopted us just showing up one day and staying.
any help would be appreciated. Mr. duck misses his mate I am sure.

I have a peking duck. She is about 6 years old. For the first time since I have owned her she is scratching like crazy and is developing sore spots near her eyes where she is scratching. I have heard ducks can get "ear" mites. She also has a wound on her side, under her wing. I think that was from scratching also. Does anyone know of a powder to put on them so they won't get these bugs? Help. I love dolly and our goose is sulking without her. She is currently in a crate under quarunteen (in my house).

We have adopted 5 peking ducks that needed a bigger place to swim. After being spooked in the water one day they don't go back in the water to swim, only along the edge to feed on the bottom goodies. They live on the land. How do we get them back into the big pond??

I have a male and female Peking Ducks that are 1 year old. I have raised them from 2 weeks of age. As soon as we let them out in the morning they attack the feet. All day long they chase me and want to snip. I raised a female many years ago and she never bit she was a honey. How do I stop these two brats from biting? Help I can't run that fast anymore.
