Part of the "art" of this is the oil paint texture, no? Giclee prints would thus suck, even if they were great.

Anyone else think of Chuck Close? His work isn't this measly four by five or five by seven INCHES that these are. Things like his 'Big Self-Portrait', of the late sixties, were about one hundred by eighty inches with very small dots. Later on he moved to bigger dots and other media (such as dyed pulp for hand made paper).
Ad Reinhardt is another one with the super pixelated stuff: something like ten-inch on a side pixels, but he also did things like have only the smallest variation in colors on a canvas. I saw a show of his work at MoMA years ago and the lighting was completely inadequate for some of the paintings.

Some of this very art was on display in a San Francisco bar a couple of months ago. Can't remember exactly where.

Interesting...blown up really large, passersby wouldn't see a thing...but the people in the building across the street definitely would.

For the record: A true giclee print is a bit more than an inkjet print. It's the same basic theory, but applied in an careful fashion on a huge expensive machine, and will last years and years. It also costs around a hundred bucks a pop. You can google around and find more info on this. I think it was developed by sign printers for running proofs, and adopted by printmakers for digital media. But some people seem to think that an inkjet print is worthy of the same name, without the tested tech and about 20 bucks worth of ink and paper. YMMV. Edited 02-04-2003 10:02 AM

They are worksafe if you're close to the screen. But what if the boss casually walks by your cubicle and has a peek at the screen? What do you say? "From up close you can't see a damned thing?". Another case of Farmsluts, just waiting to happen. Great work, though...

I'm waiting for the day when LEGO comes in 16 different colours; either that, or large-scale dithering.
(Leave it to Xeni to quote a holy book...)
