Another application that will make some people unhappy -- take the existing behavior among music fan groups of placing a cell phone call during a concert to share little bits of the music - now put that on the fan group's blog. I've proposed it to my Stones folks (under-cover.blogspot.com and www.under-cover.net) and we'll see if anyone bites. Too bad they are Down Under now...

Dav: TTS via telephony is the Holy Grail of the mobile industry right now. Unfortunately, the telephone's 8khz datastream coupled with noisy settings means that no current TTS engine even comes close to being able to do this reliably.
With VXML, you can create limited grammars of recognizable words, as long as they don't sound too similar. I did this with my audio blogging setup to allow me to title entries in the field based on preset categories ("On the road", "At work", "At a restaurant", etc.) and I imagine Audblog will do something like this, eventually, too.

Although I think it is pretty neat...I prefer to read the postings. There is something nice about having my own internal voice translate the text. Hearing it take a little bit of the mystery and magic out of it for me.

I find it interesting that Mark said 'Bye' at the end.

It would be nice if the audio could be submitted to a good TTS engine and also posted as text.
