Joe,
I can't take anything that guy says about the movie seriously after he says he hasn't seen the movie. Totally dismissing the validity of a film without seeing it is rarely a good idea, except in the arena of true pornography or obscenity (whatever that is). This article lost me when the guy calls the film he hasn't seen "obvious creationist porn".
I'm not a creationist or an apologist for them, but I like Ben Stein and want to see what he has to say about a very interesting topic. I tried to get on his game show but couldn't make the final cut. Thanks for the link.

The new Fantastic Four is really winning me over. Main reason, IMHO - the creative team is channeling Lee & Kirby again, though this time instead of taking 26 issues and five years to reimagine Avengers #1, they are embracing the twin concepts that Lee & Kirby evolved over the first 50 issues and running with them.
First, they seem to really be making an effort to get the human side of the team right in terms of coming from a human perspective. It's not so much "heroes with problems" than people acting like people (who just happen to have superpowers.)
Second - and to me the thing that really makes this effort stand out - they are embracing the "Big Idea" - usually some great sci-fi-ish concept like The Negative Zone, something that anyone familiar with Kirby saw him do throughout his career. Stuff that really makes a story stand out, the underlying backdrop against which the drama unfolds. YOu rarely see it done in modern comics effectively. Maybe early Authority would be a good example. Whatever.
One other thing...I am again reminded as I write this of the parallels between Kirby's earlier Challengers of the Unknown and in the Fantastic Four run with Edward E. "Doc" Smith's Skylark books. Adventuresome foursome. Big, sci-fi ideas. A dark, multi-faceted villian on an intellectual par with the protagonist (A villian named Doctor DuQuense).
Anyway, I digress.
I'm lovin' it. 'nuff said.
