After viewing the video interview of Howard Gardner on Multiple Inteligences and the video "A Seamless Integration of Technology" please share your thoughts relating to the theory of Multiple Intelligences and the use of tools such as concept maps or slide shows. In what other ways do you see connections between Gardner's views and technology?

I thought that the class in "A Seamless Integration of Technology" was put together well. I thought that it was great how much the teacher incorporated computers into the class and curriculum. The principal of that schoool was very supporting and she was able to see the positive side of using computers in class so much. I really liked her statement on how there is not a pencil lab so basically why should there be a computer lab? When I become a teacher I will use slide shows, with graphics and sound, to teach lessons in class. It was a really good idea for the teacher in the movie to type out a word on something like Microsoft Word and have the students in the class make corrections on the sentence. Concept maps are also a wonderful way to brainstorm. It really helps people in general, not only children, come up with new ideas. I also like the idea that other people can add to the concept maps, then go over all the information afterwards (just like what we did in class). Gardner's view on hands on, I think, can definately go with children working on computers. Also, a children's understanding of how to work with computers can only increase, it's not likely for a child to forget how to work programs. Computers will be useful to the students forever, especially as adults. I think that children should start to work with computers at a younger age.

After watching both videos I would say that having the kids do "hands on" work is better than just having to listen and try to remember everything. I thought that it was amazing how the kids at such a young age were already working with computers and animating drawings. I didn't really start to use a computer until 7th grade. I say that the younger that they start, the better. I believe that the use of concept mapping is very helpful for the student to understand and remember the concept even after they are done with school. I agree with Gardner that hands on is a lot more helpful. I know that it happens to me as well when I learn something new I can very easily forget it. Through the use of technology teachers are going to be able to make more hands on projects for the students which I think is great.

I believe that every child should learn how to use a computer because today everything must be done on a computer. Hands on projects is the best way for a student to remember what he or she learned. A student can do all the research and write an essay, but when the student can use a concept map or some type of chart it shows that the the student understands what he or she is learning about. Like one of the students in the video "Multiple Inteligences" said that he likes doing projects and showing the class what he learned because that way he can learn how to be a good communicator. Everything that a child learns in K- 12 will help them in college. As a future teacher I will use concept maps and hands on projects to help my students understand the lesson better.

I still just don't know about computers in the classroom. I think they are a good idea to an extent but not to a point where it takes away from quality teaching time. I do however think that projects can be done very well using technology and may give students a better understanding of what they are learning and at the same time give them an exciting chance to make something that looks a lot cooler than a decorated sheet of paper. As far as concept maps go and powerpoint, I think these are great tools in teaching and the kids can really use them to their advantage.

I think the videos were interesting. I think that there's a point where kids should use computers. But I also believe that for some things, kids should doing physical hands on stuff. I liked the idea of kids being able to pull up their project and show the class on the TV. And I think it's good how there's always a computer near by for those kids. But as far as doing all projects on computers, I really don't think that's something that should be done. It's kind of like shutting out the artistic side of assignments, which for some kids is the only fun part.

When I was younger I didn't get to be on the computer that much because they were as aviable to us they way they are now. I think it is awesome that students get to learn at sucj a young age, I do believe that the younger you start the better on you will be later. I deffinatly don't think that computers are all that students should be learning though. I think it is very important to a child to be active with other students, social skill is also something that is better taught when younger. The computers are good for those students who are less artistic but we need to use are right brain as well, I think that is the creative side.

I am glad to see that children aren't afraid of using the computers. In today's schools, you see iMacs that can do pretty much whatever the teacher wants the student to "discover," as one of the teachers said. I remember the computers we played on were giant white boxes wth a tiny screen that had three colors and you could only play Hangman. But I do think having "computer time" during the school week is important to our future students. It'll be important by that time for them to know what's going on and how this will be affecting their world by then. I think the theory of multiple intelligences should be used when teaching children about technology. Using these computers today, children can express whatever they want. They can create a jungle full of animals they drew beforehand and then scanned them into the computer all by themselves. Teachers have to support a child's individuality and how they express their hopes and feelings so that they can grow up feeling strong and knowledgeable.

I am so glad to see how well kids respomd to using the computer. I hope that the school that I will work at will have the advantages of the computers in the classroom like that school did. I do see a connection between the Howard Gardner theory and technology. Through technology, kids that may not be able to learn well from ther methods that were available before computers were put in the classroom, now can keep up with the class. Also, kids that excel with technology will be able to show the other kids how to work things, so that in the future they will be able to compete with the best of them. It also gives those kids with a gift for technology, a chance to share their knowledge with the class and teacher in the way that suits them best.
