I remember driving home late at night and hearing the local college station play one of his older tapes. What really sticks in my mind, for some reason, was when he took a break in a monologue to announce that he stole material from "books" and "courses at a community college." Maybe it doesn't come across well in print, but at the time it seemed... *perfect*.

Joe Franks rocks!
I grew up listening to his radio monologues. They're so damn cool.
