Note that I said the article was interesting, Ffynnon, not that I agreed with it. Putting "globalization" and "SUV" in a post is like waving a red flag at you, I know, but that wasn't my intention....:)

I'm nearly done High and Mighty: Suvs-The World's Most Dangerous Vehicles and How They Got That Way.

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/1586...701-9361588-1808326

Interesting read. I doubt you'd want an SUV (hybrid or not) after reading it.

I think the long term survival rate of Freyburg in an SUV is about as long as Lillebuen on a motorbike. ;)

I'll be damned--my book review made it onto amazon.

I mainly trash another guy's review. ;) Back to work...

Like I said, the damn things still roll over, hybrid or not. If they'd only fix the safety issues, these vehicles might be worth looking into. They won't, and so $40,000 is spared. :)

Not that I intend to spend it in the first place. One of the reasons I don't want to work in a small town is that I have absolutely no desire to own a car (or any half assed ability to drive one.) I'd rather bugger off to foreign lands than have to sink money into some clunker just so I can work in a town I don't want to be in off the top.

I'm sorry, did you say you wanted to bugger some foreign lads. Big car companies are never going to deal with safty issues. As long as people continue to purchase SUVs as they are, there will be no need to.

I don't blame the car companies as much as I blame the comsumer of said products. And what do you think the chances are of the consumer refusing to buy something because it is not safel, as long as it makes them look good driving it.

Who doesn't want to bugger foreign lads? :)

I think the consumers are equally to blame. If less people bought these monstrosities, there'd be less of a safety issue and the Big 3 might be a little more apt to make the vehicles more safe.

Are the Japanese or European SUVs any better in the safety department? You'd think that the Europeans at least would try a little harder. The Japanese probably just make the damn things to American specs. I don't think I saw one SUV when I was over there. I saw a couple of VW Beetles in Tokyo, and some really bizzarely shaped cars (like this one car that is really small but has a high roof for some reason), but no behemoths like the Navigator.

On the other hand, a Navigator would be a servicable apartment in Tokyo, and mobile too!

SUVs in Asia countries are way to big. Take for example Korea. 2 million cars(new) were registered their last year alone. I am sure that Japan is know better. Sure they have SUV type vehicles, but the biggest I have seen is the size of a Chev "Blazer".

I found that European cars are big in most asian countries. It's a status thing. Most asian countries pay up to 100% sales tax on cars purchased outside of the country. So it goes without saying, that if you own a BMW or Benz, you got money to burn.
