I have this almost constunt problem: when I do a slide show my Iphoto gets stuck to a point where i need to restart my computer. I have upgraded to Iphoto4 and it is still hapenning. The number of images in the library is currently 1700 but that should not be a problem according to the advertisemnet for iphoto 4 which promises up to 8000 images of problem free operations. Any idea why it is hapenning?

I Got Real Close to stiching two separtate halfs of the ship that was sent to me in two jpg's.
In Paint shop pro 6 I opened both files then I opened a third window minimised all of them, then I opened one of the files that had half of the ship! Croped it and saved it under another name. Same with the ohter half of the ship!
Closed them and re-opened them in the same third window, I closed both the jpg's then opened one of them. Next I right clicked and did COPY then minimised it and opened the third window where I pasted the jpg. It worked to my delight BUT the third window was only a certain size and I just do not know how to resize this third window to accept the othe half of the jpg file! I mean I did it after cropping both jpg's. I did close the first jpg and opned the other right clicked the other half of the ship and pasted it onto the third window but because of the size of the third window I could not save the two halfs of the new jpg file because it was not showing the whole ship......Man I am so close! What do I have to do to resize the third window to accept both jpg's? I will keep trying but I'm honestly stuck and need help at this last part of nearly finishing what I'm trying to do. I have tried resizing the third window but it remains small even though I have tried setting it a variety of sizes! anyone been there? Please post a message and let me know how to resize the third window so it will accept the both halfs of the ship.
I will be so grateful to you, I will personally place you in my Hall of Fame ;-)

I am trying for the first time to stitch two photos together of a ship that was sent to me in two parts! I'm using Paint Shop Pro ver 6 Can someone help me do this as I have never done it before, I have tried to crop them in the exact same place so when I join them it ought not be out of alignement! I have saved them as something other than the original :-) If anyone can help I would be very gratefull. I just came up with the idea of opening the photos in Dreamweaver 2 (I can't afford the upgrade as yet) Then I came real close but still the gap was there between them! I'm starting to feel frustrated, so I'm going to call it a day! Challenging stuff if you havent got the right software and its your first time. Steven Edited 12-14-2003 02:46 AM

SkiGramp, there is software made specifically for stitching multiple photos together. I know Canon makes a program that it bundles with some of its digital cameras. Other options for use under OS X can be found by searching for image programs on Macupdate.com or Versiontracker.com

I am definitely an amateur photographer just getting started with digital photography. I have a HP Scanner as well as a Kodak digital camera ... and the software that comes with both.
So far I am able to crop, reduce, brighten / darken my photos regardels of whether they were scanned in or uploaded from my camera.
Question ???? How to I "join" two photos together from separate .JPG files to make one .JPG file. ... I have tried PAINT but the joined photo seems to exceed the limit ...
Comment ... I can glue the photos together in Word but it is not a single .JPG file ...
How do I solve this problem with my existing software ... or what software do I need to buy in order to do this ...
Email at skigramp@yahoo.com
Thanks in advance for your help

Puggsly, I don't mean to make it sound like no one should use iPhoto 2. I am simply offering my opinion about the fatal flaw in Apple's approach to image management. They have created a great simple tool for managing a few photos, and it should work great for people who don't take too many photos every month or every year. But this approach ignores the fact that people don't use digital camera like they use film cameras. Digital photographers take more photos because there is no cost penalty for doing so, and given that fact, even very casual digital photographers will quickly run into the limitations of iPhoto.
You are right though. If iPhoto 3 or some other upgrade includes the easy built-in ability to manage photos across multiple libraries then that would be a step in the right direction.

My only grip with iPhoto and now iPhoto 2 is with the library. I wish they would include a way to archive photos easily between different albums like you can with the plugin iphoto librarian. They did include the burn to CD option, which makes it easy to archive albums to CD. Before I used a plugin. I think iPhoto 2 is great. The improvements have been wonderful. Most of the time, the enhance feature does just that, enhance my photos. I wish they had included that in version 1 when I ordered my two books. They would have been better. I think iPhoto is great and you get what you pay for in it.

I'm so sick of people bashing applications because they think it should be something else. Step down from your self centered soap box and take a look at the application for what it is. iPhoto is possibly the simplest and most powerful photo catalog and sharing tool ever created. I have never seen it's equal in the flexibility to view large numbers of photos at varying levels of detail. It's ability to share photos via Email, QuickTime movies, Web pages, Desktop photos, slideshows, screen savers, books, CD's and printed output have no match to that I know of.
Add to that about the easiest import, storage, index and cataloging system I have worked with. Drop in the best coping tool around and good basic photo correction tools and I'm sorry but what you have is an awesome program.
Is this the best program for professionals who shot hundreds of photos a month? Maybe not. Is it the best system for storing photos how ever you want using a simple hierarchy? No, I'd use the finder or graphic converter for that. But it is an easy to use tool for the home user and has a tool set that can benefit any level of digital photo user.
About the only change I can think of that would bring iPhoto closer to what you want is for apple to natively support multiple libraries and I have hope that by iphoto 3 they will choose to support this but until that day comes, swapping out libraries is not all that difficult if you have to.

"With many image management programs, the user stores the images in whatever style they want and then the image management program creates catalogs of those files in their pre-existing file structure without forcing the user to create a huge database to contain their images."
This is my main issue with iPhoto. Why won't Apple let us organize the images the way we want? Forcing people to conform has always been th realm of MS.
Let's hope they wise up with iPhoto 3.

You can use iPhoto Librarian or similar programs to work with catalogs on CDs. It can be done. It just isn't easy or intuitive...
