In the Radiance Self Calibration paper, lens vignetting was introduced as an error source, is intrinsic camera calibration a solution to the problem or am i not understanding exactly what vignetting is?

Vignetting is a caused by internal aperatures in a lens. It causes different
responses for different pixels, usually darkening along the edges. This differs
from the cos^4 falloff from a thins lens.
