Frigg is a variant on Freya, the Norse goddess who went around in a chariot pulled by cats. I've used Freya before. Mafdet is Yet Another Ancient Egyptian cat goddess, known for catching snakes and as "The Lady of the Castle of Life". My cats tend to be named after goddesses and any tom would end up named after an appropriately feline god. Charlie goes along with this!

"And where are the pictures?", she said while impatiently tapping her foot...

Your new cats are lovely (though I see what you mean about the pot belly). Weight does vary according to breed. My husband and I have a Norwegian Forest Cat, a variety that can grow to 20 pounds (or more). Emperor Horton is 18.5 pounds -- sorry, I don't know how to put that in kilos. I have a great scanned photo of the shaggy black & white beauty, but I don't know how to put an attachment on this message, being new to the site. [PS: I review for Locus and really like your writing; pity I don't get to see more of it.]

Very cute cats! My fiancee and I adopted a couple of kittens from the shelter recently, and they've improved our quality of life greatly. One of them, a black short-haired domestic named Zanzibar, has very strange white markings on his coat that form perfect rings -- like three smoke rings on his body. All the shelter staff and the people at the vet's office exclaim over him and say they've never seen anything like it, but there's a good chance they'll fade when he gets older, which is a shame.

Thinking about being a good citizen and adopting several cats from a shelter to give away as Christmas gifts. Not knowing a whole lot about cats, I wonder if anyone could offer advice on which are the best kind of cats and such. Merry Merry!
