Validity of Royal Geneology
Hello all, I am researching my family's geneology and have come across a "Royal" Link. And according to this website it is actually possible but how valid can the links to royalty be. I understand that parents used to give their children the last name of the duke or earl in whose area they lived in. My link is through John of Gaunt, his wife Katherine Rouet and their Joan Beaufort. Joan married Ralph Neville, they inturn had William Neville but William's wife is not listed and an internet geneology service has given me information that William married a Joan Fauconberg. If anyone knows of anything that would help confirm this information that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Emily eanthon@yahoo.com

How does this database arrive at their numbers on the inbreeding scale?

In reply to who was John of Gaunt. John of Gaunt was one of the most powerful and influential men in English history. He was the son of Edward III. When Edwards' eldest son The Black Prince died of wounds in France the Prince's young son Richard became Richard II under the influence of John who became the head of the poweful House of Lancaster. When Richard was murdered in Pomfret Castle 1337 John's son Henry Bolingbroke became Henry IV. John was leaglly married to Blanche of Lancaster and they were the progenitors of the powerful House of Lancaster (Red Rose: Henry IV,V,And VI). But he had a mistress Kathryne Swynford with whom he had several children including Joan and John Beaufort. When Blanche died John had his children with Kathryne legalised by an Act of Parliament. Joan Beaufort married Ralph Neville, Earl of Westmorland and their daughter Cecily married Richard Duke of York and they became the parents of Edward IV and Richard III( the House of York - White Rose) Their son Richard became the father of the powerful Richard Neville Earl of Warwick, known as the Kingmaker. John Beaufort's grandaughter, the famous Margaret Beaufort married Owen Tudor and their son became Henry VII with whose reign the Wars of the Roses came to an end, Mainly by means of Henry marrying Edward IV's daughter and then having everyone beheaded who had any claim to the throne.! and so you see without John of Gaunt's hanky panky there would have been no Wars of the Roses! re John of Gaunt. Info received slightly flawed. J of G did not legalise his union to Katherine immedialtely after Blanche's death - he then married Constanza of Castile. It was only after HER death that he was able thanks to Richard the second, to legalise their union.

Though the marriage was retrospectively legalised for John of Gaunt's children by his mistress, they were specifically barred from inheriting the throne of England. Hence Henry VII and the Tudors had a very weak claim or none at all to the throne of England in 1485. It was Henry VII's marriage to Elizabeth of York that really gave them any claim. However since then it has been worked out that an Australian actually has a better claim. He claims descent via Elizabeth of York's cousin Margaret , Countess of Salisbury. She was executed by Henry VIII when in her 70s for supposed treason (she died being chased around the block by the executioner).

This is my first time posting here, so I want to say "hi" to everyone. As most of you may know, HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Glouchester, aunt to Queen Elizabeth and mother of the present Duke of Glouchester, died peacefully in her sleep on October 29, 2004. She was 102-years old. Based on "The Office Website of the British Royal Family," funeral arrangements are still pending. You may want to send your condolences to the Princess Alice by access the link to "The Office Website of the British Royal Family" by clicking on the link: http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page1.asp

However the Tudor line should have continued and not be taken over by the Stuarts.

please contact me below if you or anybody you know fits the bill mail@louisquail.com

Are there plans to formalize the situation in legislation with regards to Camilla not being known as The Princess of Wales a titles that is hers technically correct but not in use and with regards to her being known as Princess Concort rather than again, Queen Consort or is the intention is for Charles's wife to simply avoid using the titles "Princess of Wales" or "Queen" to avoid public outcry? Also does the Queen ever plan to address the many questions surrounding the legal, not to mention morality questions, of the marriage?
