No I was an Rca for 4 years became a Te about 7 months ago lost all my seniority when my husband had to transfer (military) as an rca so went to Te To try to get the exam after my 180 days. But in the office I am in We have a clerk that switch from another office to be a city carrier ptf and I was asking about him. Also do you know if a Te can put a hold on a route or do we have to wait a year.

your name is rca/to/te. So are you becoming a PTF or a TE? They are not the same.

/m1027 I AM ONE HUNDRED PERCENT POSITIVE. Never give ANY medical documentation to your local supervisory team, ONLY to the health office. The health office then calls the supervisor and tells them, "we have documentation for Carrier X and her/his FMLA is approved for X amount of time." Local supervisors do not get medical information. (You know they won't keep it private anyway!) The supervisor only needs to know that your FMLA has been approved- the health office determines this, not your supervisor.
Also remember that you do not have to go to the Post Office doctor, you can use your own physician. Just bring them the proper paperwork and have them fax it (from the doc's office if you want) direct to the health office. I never even bring the completed paperwork back to my post office so there is no chance of my privacy being compromised.

NECarrier and Egark thank you for the information. Some of this info is very surprising. Especially since other co-workers have used FMLA and the Manager states it must be given to the Supervisor and then forwarded to her. Are you sure about it only going to the Medical Office? I will be reading all I can about it because I think my entire division does not know their rights.

I have now been a TE for my 180 days and am entitled to a test I put my request in and everytime I call personal they seem clueless. Any pointers on how I can get this 473 test. Lost in New Orleans

the post office is required to keep an active register. if the current register is three years old a new announcement will open the test. this does NOT mean they will be hiring careers. the post office operates on a just in case bases.

There is an exam announcement for city carrier in my area. Are still only hiring TE's or will they hire more PTF's?

PJake- There are a number of physical conditions that are worsened by stress that would benefit from recuperative time off from work, things like colitis, ulcers, migraines, etc. You could talk to your doctor about the negative impact work is having on your life (sleep problems, headaches, feelings of nervousness or panic, etc etc) and he may agree that you need some time off. If its your regular doctor (you can go to your own doc) he may have seen some of these symptoms in you already. The doctor does not need to tell your personal details to the P.O. for you to get FMLA, and of course, any medical paperwork goes only to the health office, not to your local supervision.
FMLA can be used for a serious health condition, including something requiring ongoing treatment (taking prescription meds qualifies as ongoing treatment)- read the FMLA paperwork, it is a pretty big window.
I would never suggest anyone take FMLA capriciously. If you really need time off to rest, talk to your doc.
