Oooooh . . . my parents have two cabins in the Adirondacks where these might come in mighty handy.

I'm thinking about getting one of those no-battery NightStar flashlights, with the magnet and the copper coil and you shake it and it lights up. I've got the shaking motion pretty well perfected by this point, so why not.

I lived in a wood-heated cabin for a couple years and had one of these -- I loved it. Elegant, nearly silent. After a while you learn to use it as a sort of kinetic thermometer. I'd look down from the loft, and if the fan was slow I knew I had to drag my ass out of bed and stoke the fire. Downsides: Pricey, and not powerful.
For flashlights, forget those generator things. It's all about LEDs now!

One of these would make a great SUV hood ornament. (kidding)
Those microforever flashlights look wonderful!

Are the NightStar and the Forever Flashlight the same design, technically speaking? From what I can tell, the NightStar is sturdier and the light per charge lasts longer... but the Forever looks a lot cooler!

Ecofans are excellent on fishing boats up here in Alaska. Most boat have diesel stoves and these fans work great at moving air around the cabin. Expensive? Yes, but worth it at night when you shut your engine down.

As long as you are able to position the Ecofan on a smooth flat surface on the stovetop near the side or back of the stove and the surface reaches a temperature of at least 150ºF (but less than 650ºF) while ensuring that the top of the fan is able to remain cool...then yes.

Will the Ecofan work on a cast iron propane stove? We have one in our camp but I'm not spending the money until I know it will work.

Another neat wood heat-powered wood stove is the Heat Wave wood stove fan. www.thermalengines.com

The guy who said the Ecofan is a good indicator of whether the stove is hot or not said it all. As a toy to tell you the stove top is hot, it's amusing. As a device to move air, it's worthless. I can put a lit match up to four inches from it before the flame begins to flicker and move. there are a million better ways to move hot air away from a woodstove. The sole advantage this thing has is that it doesn't use electricity. But then it doesn't move any air either, so what's the point?
