i like robots.
ernie the crappy household robots you are referring to in your post are the ones that weren't even able to handle carpet much less trundle around outside getting messy. This robot can climb stairs and handle rough terrain - totally different beast. it's smarter, and got better sensory input thingies too.
i wouldn't call it a good children's toy - too $$, too complicated and too fragile, however durable they make it.
however if i were a kid i'd lust after one of these things.

Bizarro World Sidenote: CMU's robot's lab is working on a stackable ROBOT TANK.
Any place that simultaneously works on robot toys and robot weapons is JUST ASKING for something truely wicked to happen.

what a fresh idea! Ive never seen anything like this! My imagination races with beer-fetching ideas! you could program it to vacuum your house, or keep out strangers by beeping really loutd zZZZZZZzzzzzzzz.
