If you subtract the hazing aspect, catalogs like this are available today. They sell fair / fundraiser / chinese auction supplies to churches and the like. An odd business.

I was touring around rural WI, where I found a old fraternal lodge from the turn of the century. It had been turned into a museum and had a few of the prank artifacts on display. One of my my favorites was a ladel that the members used for pouring molten metal onto the new pledges. Instead of molten metal though, they just used mercury. Funny, funny stuff, kids.

After a few years, the Grand Potentates who handled the mercury probably got to be real wild and crazy guys:
