boss. I have been watching from the sidelines for about a year now but seldom post.I find your posts informative, amusing, and usually dead on. You remind me of a guy who retired about 10 years ago. great carrier, loved by co workers and customers but refused to let the brass push him around. He carried a note pad and a copy of our local on him. He backed his arguments with facts and kept a level head most of the time. We miss the old timers for there ability to keep up morale. I am a carrier with over 24 years and have witnessed some of the things you speak of.I would love to take advantage of any early out (that may or may not be offered) just to clear my mind and body of the insanity. A few of the young guns now call me an old timer.funny how that works. hey_ if you ever write a book about your postal days I would buy a copy and I'm sure many other here would as well.thanks for all the great posts.

OH yes - the "VAN POOL". Another Knee-Slapper. The van breaks down, and all 5 Carriers are out past 8:00 p.m. in the snow, waiting for a mechanic to show up (on a Saturday). Another time, the Driver of the van (a Management KissAss, who was trying hard to make it work) ran a red light, wrecked the van and got hurt. 2 more Carriers sent out as Emergency, to re-distribute the mail to the other Carriers (who had nowhere to put half of it). 6 guys out there, till 7:00 p.m.
We had it all: The Las Vegas Plan, MIPSOP, the Kokomo Plan, Routers, Van Pools, Segmenting, Linear Casing ("bundle system"), DEMOTORIZATION (my favorite), and so much more. Never once, did the Post Office EVER save a dime. The outcome was ALWAYS: An EXTRA $2.5 MILLION BUCKS spent over the past 2 years, before each program would be terminated. Typical time for each "Program" to run its course: 2 years. As the coming of each new one was announced, I would ask my favorite question: "Is this a System, or a Program?"....

Boss you are right, someone at a desk who has never carried mail has to come up with new and innovating ideas to justify their job. Does anyone remember van pooling? 5 routes in one van to save gas money. All it did was create daily overtime on 5 routes every day. Spend a dollar to save a nickle - that's the postal way !!!!!!

Oldie, I don't know who came up with that rule, and after the route inspections are over, I will find out. Our postmaster is MIA and cleared out his desk, so I don't think he came up with that gas rule. Or maybe he did, and then took off. Supposedly, no gassing up on Mondays will lessen OT on Mondays. Why not ALSO MANAGE THE VOLUME a little better? Also, Fridays they usually try to give carrier's eight hour days (when possible). Hey, have the CCAs gas us up and dig our vehicles out of the snow at $15.00 per hour. Mid 80s here tomorrow, no more snow, just rain and hail now for a few months. Edited 05-16-2013 07:39 AM

What is your DAY OFF is "Gas-Up" day, and no one fills your tank? You're just screwed? Just example #10,001 of USPS's heavy-handed, stupid rules and regulations, to try and squeeze another minutes' worth of work out of Carriers, while browbeating them for failing to comply with instructions. Just remember: Some fatassed Suit got a BONUS, for making this Suggestion, with a chart showing 'how much time and productivity' it would save USPS in a calendar year (in reality, will just cause CHAOS, and NO increase in productivity, but - never mind).

We can't get gas Mondays or Fridays. Come on! I am not going to remember all of these new rules if we get very many more. They don't need to give me any reason to want to go ASAP. I didn't know about this new rule, and on Monday after I had checked out the gas card, my supervisor came up to me and asked if I could wait until Tuesday to get fuel. I said o.k., and he then told me they don't want us getting fuel Mondays and Fridays. I looked at him (very stressed my first day of the inspection) and said o.k. no gas Monday THROUGH Friday . . . oops, wrong and we laughed. I am so struggling to make it even to MRA and do everything correctly and stay out of trouble because my focus isn't as sharp as it used to be. Edited 05-15-2013 11:28 PM

/m46384 I couldn't agree with you more. They keep pushing more stupid rules here every week. This week, they decided to restrict fueling our trucks to either Wednesday or Saturday.. No excuses. Then today they said all expresses will be delivered by 11:45 A.M. If it's after that its considered late. At any rate I've had enough of the silly games. Put my package in and retire June 30th. Did 22 years USMC, and 16 USPS. Wouldn't be eligible for the early out, so I'm cutting and running. I hope you guys and gals are offered an EO soon. Hang in there!!!!

Boss Basher & monkeyman, I feel the same way. I just don't understand how things got like this. When I started, I don't remember feeling so "hated" by the usps. I just went to work (in the 1980's) did the job, and went home. Now it's a constant feeling of "What's next?". What new rule, what new threat, what numbers did we fail to produce. This is a big part of why I want to retire so badly and just get out of this place and forget I was ever part of it. I don't think things will ever be like they should be. There is so much micro-management from "higher ups" that the local managers can't implement things that need to get done to do the job and be successful. It's a shame.

boss basher you are right. they really do not like us. the feeling has grown worse over the last several years. i think it would hurt them to give us something to leave. when was the last time they gave carriers an incentive to leave? if they offer anything to carriers it will just be a vera. 57/28 you seem very confident something is going to give soon. what makes you believe it? i hope you are right, but i doubt it.

/m46381 I feel the same way you do about it. Although it's happened like twice before (Early Out for Carriers), the Post Office HATES the Carrier craft like no other. They always made that clear, on the workroom floor. Therefore, I think they will be Loathe to give anything to the Carriers. They'd rather see us drop dead first. IMHO, anyway. You can always hope, but don't waste any time or effort, doing so. Even if USPS adopts very wasteful tactics, such as knowingly OVERSTAFFING the Carrier craft (combination Career, CCAs and displaced Clerks), IMO they'd rather keep the Carriers there and torment them, by screwing up the assignments and treating them in a demeaning fashion, than to allow them to leave early. It's just their traditional mindset.
