no monetary incentives to retire will be offered. the only thing USPS wants to give everyone is a kick in the ass. if they could cut your pay to $10 bucks an hour and take away your retirement, they would do it. does anyone here doubt that?

Correct, GW-- seriously doubt any incentives are coming! Why? Because they will not have to give any..... 1-Make people miserable, through RIF, excessing, abolishments, etc.-SOME WILL LEAVE, 2- Don't worry about the old codgers that refuse to retire, eventually they will, either be so physically ill, or they will be deceased.

You're correct GW, no monetary incentives will be offered but the word I've been hearing is that they will offer to add 3 years to your time if you are already eligible to retire, this offer will be coming in September.

Remember a 100,000 cut in jobs gets you 7 BILLION in savings! Clerks, and mailhandlers will be cut in half because of automation, and lack of work!Supervisors will also recieve a huge cut! Letter carriers will lose some jobs, but it will be the most secure of all crafts! 500,000 USPS workers coming very soon!

Hey GW HEYWOOD... what you just said in your last post,
will probably be happening with the new contract in 2011.
alot can happen between now and then though. and most of
it will probably be about more BIG shots (on both sides of
the fence) jumping ship just before the damn thing sinks for good !!!

X's friend /m36370 -- impossible. Congress would have to change the current law and that won't happen by September.

Some of you still don't get it. You still have this sense of entitlement. Changes are coming, in fact as we speak. If it hasn't affected you yet, it will. Don't think for one minute that you've heard and seen it all before. These are unprecedented times we're in. The situation is desperate for the USPS. Look around you in your work place. You see the changes, bad changes. But you continue to hide behind your seniority as if it is a protective wall. No more it is my friends. The good old days are over. Have been for some time now. You're just in a postal coma that you have been in for decades. Wake up! Your only incentive will be to get out while you're still breathing.

The problem with all these cost cutting ideas is, even if they figure out a way to save all these billions, someone else within the USPS will figure out a way to spend twice the savings. They are just like a kid in a candy store! You know, like more machines they don't need.

Shem, Changes are necessary in ALL business across america! MANY Small business that use to employ 15 people are now down to 10 all across america! The USPS will be no different! Cut the amount of employee's to match the workload and the USPS will be profitable again! Once again, if the USPS cuts 100,000 from its work force it will save SEVEN BILLION. That right their is enough to make the USPS profitable again! Add in HR 22, and you save another THREE BILLION! THATS 10 BILLION DOLLARS RIGHT THERE! Maybe I should be postmaster general!

Off topic. A carrier got shot in a bank robbery - here is video of him discussing it and his recovery. I hope comments here are better than the ones on the story at postalblog.com

Rich, Im just trying to add some common sense to the forum, instead of the mind numbing doom and gloom you read all the time on this forum! If you took half the garbage on this forum seriously you would be in a mental hospital before long!

My idea to get the USPS healthy again, is to sit Potter, the unions, and a representative from the Obama admin. in a room, and discuss how we can cut 100,000 people from the USPS payroll. Do you do it with some sort of incentive for people getting close to retirement? Or a combination of job cuts in ALL crafts, especially the clerk, mail handler, and supervisor ranks? Some sort of combination of incentives, and rifs sounds about right to me!
