B&L, one more thing....don't buy the external antenna that VZ offers, it's useless. Get something like a Wilson Yagi antenna for 800 MHz. You'll need a mounting (mast or bracket) and cable with an adapter for whatever modem you use.

B&L, I now use Verizon Wireless Broadband in the same area as you as does at least two others I know of with great success. You should be able to get an acceptable signal where you are with just the USB modem antenna, and a great signal if you use an external directional antenna pointed toward Northwoods. I'm getting 1.4 Mbps speed and I'm looking through the woods with a directional antenna. You should have a clearer shot. 800 MHz signals are very high frequency and just moving an antenna a few inches makes a big difference. I'm confident you'd be able to get good service there.

I'm on Little Bear, just west of Hole in the Wall, and am using the Verizon Broadband service very nicely.
The rule of thumb is...if your cell phone works, so will your broadband. They just installed a tower in Tuftonboro for cell phones this spring so if your previous experience predates that, try again.

Verizon Wireless is all I know of. My son used it with some success when he was attempting to work from the island. I go up to the Moultonborough library when I need high speed. Good wireless high speed service 24/7 and you can sit in the parking lot if they are closed. Somehow I think that isn't what you're looking for.

I agree phil. I too have legit concerns with regard to operating the club at such a low price. If you sit down and do the Math with regard to what we require for staffing and hours it's difficult to see how the number adds up. I hope I am wrong and I will admit it proudly when I am.
I'm ok with a debate as long as people don't make it personal.

Actually I've really enjoyed this debate. I to wish the new guy well for both him and all of us. I still have concerns though.
Hazelnut, thanks a million for this board. It's a big part of our island life.

I allowed "Harilla Member" to post his thoughts as he did so concurrent with my post.
It was requested of me to allow anonymous posting out of fear of retribution.
What I will do is read each post carefully and if I feel it is too negative or critical of another individuals opinion I will not post it.
I am truly sorry if the board members that are reading this are offended. It is a tough job and it usually goes unappreciated. Unfortunately people are entitled to have an opinion and they are also entitled to question the boards decision making. I will try to do my best to moderate hateful comments toward the board of directors at Harilla.
My suggestion to those who want to post is to attach your name to the post. If you feel you have to post it anonymously maybe this forum is not the right place for the comment. Just a thought.

Duckhunter and Mainland Harilla Owner are correct.
Anyone can serve on the Board but it's obviously a thankless job. We have a Board so that decisions can be made on our behalf. If the memebership had to vote on every decision, we'd get absolutely nowhere.
Those defending Goodhue forget that the held us for ransom for an extra $255 per member after the contract was already in place. The membership voted to pay for this. The board could have acted unilaterally, but let the members vote. Part of their rationale was a schedule of hours that they said they'd need to support with two people. I have witnessed that they have not been there for those hours by a long shot (where's my rebate?).
The main role we ask of the management (Goodhue) is to rack boats. This could be done by a single person focused on that task (two people for safety reasons) as the boats come in, yet the valet docks are often full. If the management is busy working on boats, they are getting paid for that labor and neglecting the activity we pay them for. I have no problem with Goodhue, but I do believe that the folks who won the new contract could likely succeed at he awarded rate, given they are given a "marina" with no overhead and likely over 300 candidate boats to service for added fees (most islanders have more than one boat). Boats generally don't come in faster than they can be racked, so the $50K pays for the hours dedicated to racking boats and the valet docks should be kept clear (except for users coming back in a few hours).
I have personally heard more people complain about Goodhue service than I've heard compliments, and I've also had some issues. If the new manager does good work, I suspect he'll have plenty of revenue from the membership service activites. Let's hope so.
Also, the Board has stated that the new guy has experience with racks similar to our new building....nice.

While some people, including the last two, have hidden behind screen names, others have not. My screen name includes my last name. I have also voiced my opinions at the meetings and did not receive concrete answers. I stand firm on my opinion that the board failed to notify the membership adequately during this process. That is a fact not an opinion.
As moderator I will no longer allow posts from anonymous individuals on either side of this issue. Thank You.
As for the incoming management I have heard excellent things from people who have done business with them. I hope they meet with great success at Harilla.

FINALLY, a voice of sanity...I am not a member of Harilla or an island resident and have never felt the need to interject anything but I need to say, WOW. I could not agree more with Mainland Harilla Owner on the armchair QB comment...STEP UP OR SHUT UP. With regard to the new manager, has anyone contacted them yet to ask all these questions or contacted the board directly with the concerns mentioned or have all the arguements been between you and the reflections off the screen of your computer???
I say KUDOS to the board of Harilla for all I am sure they have been through after reading the posts on this site.
Remember, all grapevines are long and in the end will always produce sweet rewards but it all begins with the root and has a very necessary amount of time needed to finish the process - start at the beginning of these issues rather than criticizing the end and collectively enjoy the result- If all was ideal with Goodhue, there would have never been a need to put out for bid. If what Harilla had for ammenities were perfect, there would be no need for construction...If the world were perfect and everyone were happy - well, that will never happen...

with all due respect, this looks like armchair quarterbacking... if you guys have all the answers, why aren't you on the board....? Stop yacking and start serving. it takes effort and commitment and its easy to find fault behind your computer screen. Lead or follow..
full disclosure: not a board member, but a friend of one. He is earnest and trying to do the best he can (and he does read this forum)
