I was also a patient at Dr Bannister's surgery, but my doctor was Dr Tughan. As a child I thought it was spelt "choo-an" and was quite surprised when I was older to see how it was spelt! I remember the surgery well; the long wooden benches, the dark brown gloss paint, the "high window" set in the wooden enclosed area that was 'reception' through which my mother spoke to the receptionist (who obviously didn't sit down on the job!- it was too high for that) and the four framed photos on the long wall of four London Hospitals. I can remember Guy's Barts and St Thomas's but not the fourth photo at the moment. I had lots of ear problems as a child, as well as fracturing my shoulder when I fell over the bannisters at home (having been told not to lean over from the landing!) as well as scarlet fever, so I had lots of visits there unfortunately. I remember Dr Tughan being very gentle and kind. Anyone else remember him?

MAUREEN - I think I may have referred to you as MARGARET - forgive my confused state. I seem to be having a series of 'senior moments' lately.
To repeat my earlier question - are you any relation to DAVE GOODMAN who attended Tottenham Grammar School where I, too, was a pupil?

Hi Alan,
Thanks for jogging the old grey matter. I had forgot that I remembered all the places in Park Road, Bus turnaround, Ron' Cafe etc. I can't recall Ron's wifes name, but she could burn toast blindfolded!!!

Re your photo's, how do you manage to enlarge them?

This you may find interesting http://www.water.wa.gov.au/ others may not want to hear of Australia's fresh water situation.
Ivor in Perth we have done away with Septic tanks as they pollute the water table and in turn the water ways and the ocean.
Still on Park Road was there a small Bike shop opposite the Golden Fleece car park?
Go the Aussies in the cricket.

If you really want to know more about my visits to Cromer send a message to the following:- patricia@letch.plus.com It's an old e-mail address I no longer use but is still open. From that I shall send you my current e-mail address. From there we can happily bore each other to death without disturbing anyone else.
Eddy.
The information I wrote is not mine but comes from history books about the war. The war spawned a number of myths, many were put out officially to boost morale. Yes, the Germans would have known about Eley's as well as the Royal Small Arms factory in Enfield but neither the flying bomb nor the rocket was sophisticated enough to be so accurate. They were aimed in the general direction of London with the knowledge that they would hit something. Remember they were "revenge" weapons. As a matter of fact, books on the development and launching of those weapons make fascinating reading for those interested.

Brian photo of the bus turn round in Park Road. When I was bus driving at Tramway Avenue we did occasionally use this turn round whilst on the 279s & the 149s. The site now looks like it's being used for car sales. I can't recall the cafe but my memory is not very good nowadays.

Tony. not all of the Park Road area is free from rubbish. This google photo shows the new housing built on the M K site, there's plenty of rubbish that's been chucked on the grass verge near the lamp post.
http://fyad.org/z761
The council do a fair job of keeping the streets clear of this type of rubbish and have teams of men with small trucks picking it up. Much of the litter on the streets is takeaway food containers and drink cans. Takeaway food shops are springing up everywhere. So the rubbish piles up as unthinking people just dump their takeaway rubbish anywhere except in one of the thousands of public litterbins supplied by the council.

Greywater
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greywater, also known as sullage, is non-industrial wastewater generated from domestic processes such as dish washing, laundry and bathing. Greywater comprises 50-80% of residential wastewater. Greywater comprises wastewater generated from all of the house's sanitation equipment except for the septic tank (water from toilets is Blackwater, or sewage).

Greywater is distinct from Blackwater in the amount and composition of its chemical and biological contaminants (from feces or toxic chemicals). Greywater gets its name from its cloudy appearance and from its status as being neither fresh (white water from groundwater or potable water), nor heavily polluted (Blackwater). According to this definition wastewater containing significant food residues or high concentrations of toxic chemicals from household cleaners etc. may be considered "dark grey" or Blackwater.

Alan, Park road looks fairly clean, compared to that stretch of fore st round the corner by that kiosk, which looked terribly dilapidated. What is that in the old MK electric factory, a car dealers? Also, the timber supply shop on park Road, wasn't that called Halls?

By the way Steve, Gray water is not water from the Loo, it's bath/shower/sink water, Loo water has to be highly treated before it can be classified as Gray.

Those talking about Dr Bannister, wasn't he located in the big old white house on the left side of Bury Street when heading up from the Hertford Rd, on the corner of Millbrook Rd.
He was my family Dr until I came to Oz in the 60's.

We old Pom's should know better about drinking recycled water, we did it in UK so lets educate the Aussies as they don't seem to have a clue and seem to think it's unclean.
It's really quite interesting how the various governments act on water, the Fed's are buying back water titles to put more water in the rivers so it can run out to sea, which is a waste of water in my books. The funniest thing is the water titles they are buying back only have water when it rains anyway, which it's not now and hasn't for the past 10/12 years.
The Vic's are building a north/ south pipeline (that nobody wants) to pipe water that doesn't exist until it rains, this is taking water from the country folk to the city, yet when it rains in the city all the drains run into the bay instead of harvesting and storing it, at least the country folk store the rain water to use.
The Green's want to stop a new Desal plant being built on the coast because it will spoil the view, doesn't matter if Melbourne runs out of water and millions die as long as the view is saved.
I'm alright jack but don't complain about the rain when it does come, what we have been getting this last week needs to go on for about 3 years to bring us back to the water levels we had 15 years ago in Vic.
Being in West/Vic you can see all the local lakes dry as a bone, (we use then as race tracks now), never been seen like it by the local 90 year old's.
My water tanks are still not full but my bore water is crystal clear and taste's wonderful, much nicer than city water so do not have to worry about it yet, mind you it's surface water that runs through the cow and sheep poo and then down into the under water rivers 150+ feet below ground, maybe we shouldn't drink it incase we get floaties in out coffee!
The weather station on my property has been recording rain level's since 1890's and these latest years are not the driest we have had so forget all about global warming and climate change and get on with life, and enjoy your coffee.
Go the Ozzie's in the cricket.
