Daniel Solarez won RTCC#4 last night with a 3½-point score. Daniel will receive the first prize of $27. Jeff Jones was second with 3 points and earned $14. Next month's tounrament will be three rounds as we will not be meeting either December 23rd or December 30th in deferrence to the holiday season.

I should also add that the North Durham Branch Library is at 221 Milton Rd. just off 15-501 about 5 miles north of I-85 past Riverside Plaza and the Eno River for anyone who has never been there. Play generally lasts from 2 PM to 4:30 or so, whenever you finish.

The North Durham Regional Library Chess Club will be meeting this Saturday at its usual time of 2:00 PM. We are still growing and invite all area chess players to visit and enjoy some casual chess. A few sets and boards are provided, but I also suggest that you bring your own in view of our increased attendance. See you there!

Congratulations to Daniel Faries for winning RTCC #3 with a 3.5 point score. Daniel earned $27 for his performance and gained 60 ratings points. Iuliu Barta finished in clear second with 3 points. Iuliu traveled up from Spring Lake all four weeks for his first USCF rated tournament.

Bruce,
The Borders Club does still meet on Saturdays from 2PM-7PM. There are usually 6-8 boards going. As for Wednesday night, we do have room for everyone who wants to play USCF-rated competetive chess (Spectators are welcome too). I live right behind the Borders so I'd be happy to give you a ride (We're starting to get a pretty good carpool going from Cary.) I would recommend Borders first as you get comfortable with more serious play.

Hello, I have stumbled on your site and have questions. I am relatively new to Chess and would like to get better. I am almost 40 and am looking for adults to play Chess with. I live 1 mile from Borders but am unsure if they are still meeting there because their website has not been updated in 2 years. I have never played seriously but am learning notation to analyze my mistakes in the game. Do you have space for a beginner/novice in your Wednesday evening games? You can reach me at bamor223@gmail.com. Kind Regards, Bruce

I've made a few changes to the RTCC website. Some cosmetic like a new image map on top of each page and some new wallpaper. I've streamlined the Games page rather than try to categorize the games. Also, I've merged the Members and Directors pages. I would appreciate any feedback. Remember the site is at http://raleighchess.freewebpages.org

Congratulations to John Smithwick for winning the 5th Pawn Pickin today in Raleigh. 18 players showed up to enjoy a bountiful buffet of barbecue, ribs, fried chicken, and several sides. I will more likely try to do this on a Saturday next year as I heard from several people who couldn't make it due to work commitments today.

I'd like to thank everyone who participated. We raised $198 for the USCF Legal Defense Fund.
